ADULT SERVICES: MED-REHAB
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN MEDICAL CENTER
SETTING:
Med-Rehab, Williamsburg Complex near Briarwood Mall
355 Briarwood Circle.
DESCRIPTION:
Med-Rehab is an outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation service. The rehabilitative care services at Med-Rehab include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, rehabilitation psychology, neuropsychology and social work. This facility also has such programs as Adult traumatic brain injury, Pediatric day treatment,. and Pain Management.
STUDENT'S ROLE:
As a volunteer at Med-Rehab, students are asked to assist in many activities including patient observation and support. The students may also assist the staff with filing, xeroxing, equipment return/clean-up, group treatments, and community outings.

PREREQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Three semester commitment to Medical Center requested; additional credit is available for second term of volunteer work. Sign up for an interview with Adult Services (936-4327) as soon as you have registered for the term and been accepted into the class (preferable); or sign up for an interview at the first class meeting (openings may be limited). Mandatory attendance at Hospital General Orientation (1 hour) and MedRehab Training (1 hour). Proof of measles/rubella immunization and a negative TB skin test required; immunizations provided by hospital as needed. Further explanation of health screening requirements provided at Information/Orientation sessions.
TRAINING:
An interview, orientation session and training session are required for this placement. See above.
