E-RESOURCE BUDGETS/FUNDING

7.1
Summary of

Annual Expenditures

Appendix 9 illustrates the percentage of University Library book funds expended for electronic materials. The summary covers the following fiscal years: 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95, and 1995-96. The data, gathered from annual book budget reports prepared by Acquisitions, are broken down by cluster and by location fund within each cluster.

In looking at FY1995-96, for example, the data show that the Science Library received a total appropriation of nearly $1.8 million and spent approximately $36,000 for electronic materials. Therefore, the percentage of the Science Library's budget spent on electronic materials for that fiscal year was 2%.

During that same time frame, the total book budget appropriation to all the clusters listed was $8.7 million, and the total amount spent by the clusters for electronic materials was approximately $381,000. Therefore, the percentage of funds expended by the clusters (i.e., not centrally funded) for electronic materials was approximately 4.4% of the cluster appropriation..

The summary also indicates that approximately $400,000&endash;or 4.4% of the total collection budget&endash;was expended centrally via the Electronic Publishing funds during FY1995-96. In looking at funds expended by cluster funds and those expended centrally (via the Electronic Publishing funds) we can determine that approximately 8% of the total collection budget was spent on electronic materials. This percent includes one-time and ongoing commitments.
