Sample Record 7

See the General Introduction for an explanation of structure in records.

8869.  [Psalterium]. (Augsburg: Schoensperger I, Johann;
1496?). Roman usage.
     In 4to. [2], I-CLVI, [2] (= 160) folios.
This book is entirely in Latin, including the manuscript
notations in the Vienna ONb copy. Four folios of a Registrum
at the end include a Registrum Psalmorum and a Registrum
Hymnorum. Musical staves are printed without notation
throughout: often just a single staff for music precedes a
passage, but in some cases up to three staves are supplied. F.
Q8v (= 144): Finit psalterium. Hymnal follows. No publication
information. No calendar.
     The Vienna ONb copy (235 x 165) collates: A-T in 8s, U in
4, [*] in 4 ($4 A-T (-N4), $2 U signed, signing O3 as O2). Red
initials supplied in manuscript, some capitals colored by hand.
Some pages repaired. Water damage and worm holes. Many
manuscript additions of entire passages, sometimes in the lines
supplied by the printer for musical notation. Sometimes these
additions are identified as "hymns." In the Psalter, musical
settings are supplied only three times: for "Sede ad (sic)
dextris meis dixit dominus domino," "Fidelia omnia mandata et
confirmata in seculorum seculis," and (f. R1r) "Conditor alme
siderum et[er]na lux credentiu[m] criste rede[m]ptor omniu[m]
exaudi p[re]ces supplicum." In the hymnal, music is supplied
in about half of the cases. Ownership signatures in front
cover: "Ex bibliographia Windhaagiana," "Christophorus Lindauev
hunc libru[m] Sigismundo Hoffsterero hunc librum (sic) in
perpetuum amicitiae dono, Anno 1565." Also the signature of
James H[.], f. C8. Vienna ONb librarian's note inside front
cover refers to Vienna ONb codex 3812, ff. 18r-142v as a
"doublet," but according to ONb records that text is a
manuscript calendar. A manuscript psalter is reported on ff.
1-17 and a printed antiphonal after f. 142.
Locations: Vienna ONb (**, lacks title page) Ink 16.G.7.
Keys: Psalter, Black and red, No illustrations, Music.
Status: Complete.
