Theory

In the system of surface diffusion and evaporation-condensation, the normal velocity of the surface is given by mass conservation as,

Where j is the volume of matter added to per unit area of the solid surface per unit time, and J is the volumetric diffusion flux which can be derived with the driving force F and the mobility M as,

Then, the weak statement including both surface diffusion and evaporation-condensation is,

Where the δi is the volume of matter added to per unit area of the solid surface, and δI is the mass displacement.

Numerical Method

The system is governed by global H matrix, movement, and force terms as follows;

The above global H matrix is spanned by the 7x7 H matrix which is determined by two near nodes;

and the force matrix is given by

, however for our simulation the third and fourth terms are zero because we have assume no phase changes and electric and mechanical stress fields in our model or considered zero.
