Summer Blonde Adrian Tomine

I have never really actually read a comic book. I, for some reason, always associated comics with those nerdy kids in high school that smell. For the record, I admit that I was wrong. I read Summer Blonde by Adrian Tomine this weekend and to my surprise I actually enjoyed parts of it. It reminded me actually of a book I read over the summer called 4 Blondes by Candace Bushnell. It has a lot of suprising similarities.
I could now actually see myself reading a comic outside of it being an assignment. The only thing that I still don’t really enjoy about comics it that the design layout of comic books is way too busy for my eyes. I always have had a tracking problem when reading. That’s why I don’t read too much. I find it very hard to concitrate on the subject of what I am reading. With comic books the pages themselves are too busy and I have a hard time focusing on the cell that I am reading. My eye tends to bounce around all over the page.
I give a lot of credit to Adrian for creating a comic that’s plot is far from childish.
