"We believe without fail that our goal is within reach - but we can't get there without your support. Please join the fight today!"
Our volunteers are well known for the hundreds of hours they spend each year taking people new to a given server or to the game itself in hand and making them comfortable and able to reasonably take on (and enjoy!) the challenges and exploration that they're about to begin.
Our members continually scan the global "who" lists within the starting level range (generally 1-5 inclusive) for people who fit the criteria of "new guests." We then make an effort to determine if they are new or not, and if so, what aid they might require, if any. |
In a given day, a member of the Watch working any rota will be asked about a dozen times "how is the server for (rp, pvp, raiding)?", "What are the best guilds for me?" Volunteers provide unbiased counseling and feedback for their server based on the guest's needs and "best fit."

In case a new guest without support is "in over their head", the questgivers in a starting area are being savaged (again), or something similar happens, Watch personnel either respond themselves or attempt to coordinate an approriate response. |
Sometimes, a guest will be starting in one area, their friends in another - which can be a nightmare if you're small! In certain circumstances, members of the Watch will escort guests where they need to go. This is entirely discretionary, of course.

|
For those starting out with no other means of support, The Watch has a "standard kit" for each class, which varies only slightly based on what's available in the donation bin. This also usually includes 4 silk bags, or something similar....just enough to get started and enable the guest to start earning their own way. |
For guests who are unsure of their skills just yet, Watch members who are able to do so may offer to provide Overwatch, where the member will trail the guest for a while without being in a party and keep them healed against any unreasonable hazards. Watch agents do not engage in combat on guests' behalf while doing overwatch; if you aggro the whole vineyard, they will let you die.

Members of the Watch are happy to answer any questions from new guests about how their powers work, game mechanics, and related topics. They will also be glad to direct guests to the places they need to go to meet their first quest givers, skill trainers, vendors, and so on. Detailed training in certain aspects of the game (chain casting, wands, pets) is also provided if the agent thinks it's appropriate.
Our agents never tell guests how to complete quests, though, or give away any information they should be getting by exploring on their own. That would sort of go against the spirit of the thing. |
The Watch is gratefully sponsored by the actions of its members, and the kindness and charity of the following individuals and guilds:
