SOCIAL WORK COMPETENCY REFERENCES

Social work practice requires broad range of knowledge and skill. There is increasing focus on identfying the specific skills and knowledge that social workers need to practice in a medical setting. Below are some links that provide examples of work going on in the field.

Geriatric Social Work - the SAGE SW Project.

Rheumatology - Describes what social workers involved with individuals with rheumatic diseases should be able to do

American Psychological Association Guidelines for psychotherapy with lesbian, gay and bisexual clients.

General Descriptions.

The American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work (ABE) has several position papers on competency. They have more recently developed material for supervisors of social workers.
