What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science
education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education. The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events, which students prepare for during the year. The competitions follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and science applications. In addition, during the day there are open house activities that consist of science and mathematics demonstrations, activities and career counseling sessions conducted by professors and scientists at the host institution occurring concurrently with the events. - National Science Olympiad Website

How many people are on a team?-
There are 15 students per team who will compete in the district and regional competitions. Students will have to earn a position to compete on the team. Any team can have unlimited alternates. Alternates are there to support team members and may be asked to compete as well.

What are the different events this year?-

Amphibians, Anatomy, Bio Processes Lab, Elevated Bridge,
Compute This, Crave the Wave, Disease Detectives, Dynamic Planet, Ecology, Environmental Chemistry, Experimental Design, Fossils, Meteorology, Pentathalon, Physical Science Lab, Reach for the Stars, Road Scholar, Robo-Cross, Science Crime Busters, Scrambler, Trajectory, Wright Stuff, Write It - Do It.

Parents- In order to have a successful team, I will need at least 6 parent volunteers who are willing to help organize and coach the team this year. The role of parent volunteers varies greatly. Whether you have a science background or not, I need parents who could help organzie events, drive to and from competitions, hold practices at your home after school or during weekends, help organize our supplies, and help cheer on our team. There are 21 different events total that the students will be competing in. I will provide all of the supplies and resources for each of the events. It would be great if I could get parents to sponsor at least two events. The responsibilities would include: providing a place for the team members to meet and practice, encouraging the students as they work on their event, and helping them set up at the competitions. There will be a district competition and a regional competition and depending on how well we do, we may go on to the state and even national competition! Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering.
