Kana

Kana is the fourth cat in the pecking order. She was discovered by some friends of ours, a stray kitten on the streets of Detroit. They brought her home, gave her several flea dips, and gave her to us. ("You've already got three cats; one more won't even be noticeable!") She is always ready to play, and is the second-best hunter in the clutter, right behind Peggy. Although Neffie and Peggy are a little stand-offish, the bottom three cats in the pecking order like to sleep together, wash each other, and wrestle. Kana especially likes to wrestle, with either Bert or Max, whoever is closest. Kana is actually the toughest of all the cats, for all that she is the smallest. I have seen her back Peggy into a corner and make her whimper.

Maybe due to the food supply when she was a baby, Kana is a tiny cat-- only 6 lbs! She is still kitten-sized, even though she is full-grown. Another of her idiosyncrasies, perhaps also due to her upbringing, is that she will drink almost any liquid. I have seen her drink orange juice. Kana is all white, with a black tail, a black cap, and a black spot on her side. She looks like a little cat-shaped cow. She is really the cutest of all the cats. When you talk to her, she looks up at you and gives a soft little meow. When you reach down to try and pet her she often scampers away. People think she's shy but she just likes to play chase.

About the picture: The model is a friend of mine who fell asleep one night on my bear. Then Kana decided Carousel's lap looked like a nice place to lie down. It was too cute to pass up when a loaded camera was lying around.
