Rumi is Miki's mother. She is notoriously a bad cook and can be very forgetful and thoughtless. She really does love Miki but she always seems involved with something else. She divorces Miki's father, Jin and marries Yuu's father, Youji. Rumi becomes concerned when Miki gets lost in New York and the whole family flies over to help find her. The reunion scene between Rumi and Miki is very touching.
