The research group is generally interested in new graduate-student applications. Availability of research positions is dependent on the current funding situation. For more information, lab tours and interviews please contact Georg Raithel graithel@umich.edu.
Typically, the group also provides research opportunities for several undergraduate students. This can be in the form of work-study appointments, summer REU positions, or some other mechanism. To inquire about present openings and lab tours please contact Georg Raithel graithel@umich.edu or ask the graduate students and post-docs in the group.
August 2008 - Position filled. Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position to work on nanoparticles and
biologigal matter in optical lattices. Applicants should send a
CV to Prof. Georg Raithel, 4255 Randall Laboratory, Physics Department, University of Michigan, 450 Church Street,
Ann Arbor, MI 48109 [or e-mail graithel@umich.edu]. Applicants should further
arrange for three letters of reference, to be sent to the same address. Screening of applications is ongoing and will
continue until the position is filled. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
August 2008 - Position filled. Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in cold-atom research
at the University of Michigan. A compact, coherent, phase- and amplitude-stable, continuous cold-atom source
will be developed using micro-fabricated atom guides. The atom flow is evaporative cooled to quantum degeneracy
via surface adsorption. In future stages of the project, the cold-atom source will be integrated with chip-based
atom-interferometric sensors. Experience in micro-fabrication techniques will be useful. Applicants must be U.S.
citizen and the awarded doctorate degree must have occurred within the last five years. Applicants should send a
