  • My mother was Doris McClellan. We're descended from William McClellan who emigrated to New York in 1778. He lived in Cherry Valley, then came to Canada with my 5Great Grandfather, Martin McClellan in 1784. We also may have a connection through my 5Great Grandmother, Azubah Hopkins b.1770. Her father was Silas Hopkins b.1741, and there was a brother named Giles. If you could shed light on either of my ancestors, it would be greatly appreciated. We've hit stumbling blocks.   • My Grandfather was Joseph Kerr McClelland born about 1876 in Ballinrees a small townland near Coleraine Co. Derry. His Father was Robert Pattison McClelland (same name as my Father). He had a half brother called John who emigrated to Philadelphia U.S.A. and then went on to Canada. My Grandfather visited him in the U.S. around 1897 at age 19 my Father has a record of his embarkation stating that he could read and write and was a bricklayer. Obviously he didn't stay, but came back to Ireland where he married my Grandmother Annie Merritt (originaly from co. Donegel)And became a stone mason and served with the 36th Ulster division at the Somme in 1916.

  • I am interested in finding out about my father's ancestory on his father's side. We know a great deal about his mother but the McClellan family history fizzles out past Grandpa. My father's name was Ransom Lee McClellan born in Orange, NJ on May 8, 1921. His father was Harold McClellan. That's all I know of the family line.   • Like others here, I am trying to trace my roots (through my mom's side).

    My mom is Margaret (Peggy) McClellan...she married Richard "Dick" Stover. My mom's uncle, Walter, did a great deal of research in the 80s but I think it was lost after he passed away. My mom's dad was Alva McClellan, who died in 1973. He also had a brother John, if I recall.

    Walter had papers of General McClellan and had linked us to him but he was missing some info. From what I can tell in my research, there is a gap when it comes to what happened with the General's son. He (Gen. George B) and Mary Ellen had George Brinton McClellan II -- he became a NYC Mayor and U.S. Congressman. He died in DC in 1940. I cannot find information on his children. Also, the General had two brothers, one who did not have children. Does anyone have more info, especially with regard to the western PA McClellans? Thanks...

  • Hello I am trying to find out any information about my fathers family as possible. There isnt really much information for me to go on. If someone out there knows him or has any information for me I would appreciate very much. Here is the info I know, again sorry it isnt much.

    My fathers name is Albert Allen McClellan b. Febuary 11, 1955 I believe he may be from NY.
    He has 11 siblings from what I heard but that may be wrong.
    He has a sister named Chris she has two children both boys.
    A brother Jay and Brian those are the only names I am familliar with. One of his brothers lives in Hawaii, and one is a chef. My dad had problems with his legs growing up and was in a wheel chair early on. He, for 12 years of my life was a tattoo artist and biker. I never met his family.
    I have a brother Harley Allen and a sister Joan-anne Francess. My sister was said to be named after my fathers mother. Thanks

  • I have researched my husband's family back to 1760. His many times grandfather Samuel McClellan told his sons that he was 'left on an estate with elderly people in Georgia or North Carolina as a boy. He served as a soldier' but was then prest into the British Navy in 1787 at Portsmouth, England and served until 1820. The descendants went on to be watchmakers in Deptford, London.
    I have searched for many years for any record of him or his parents - any more ideas would be great.

  • We traced our family bible to the hands of Chauncey Ulysses McClellan, wealthy by way of veterinary supplies and pharmaceuticals in California (d 1970's). My uncle, Jack McClellan and my grandfather, John Lester Mcclellan (b.1903 Kansas City, KS) paid him a visit in the 1960's only to find that our family's bible had a page of blank paper glued over the pertinent family information. After Chauncey's death, no one knows what happened to the bible. We are stuck in our search because my great-grandfather, James Addison Alexander McClellan (b. ?) is a bit of a phantom. He is not listed in any census in KC in 1910, 20 or 30...we believe that he was born in Indiana (possibly Terra Haute). He could have been born in Illinois as well, he worked for the railroad and didn't have any social security number. James' wife was Katherine Kitts (b. 1882 in Terra Haute), her father's name was George Kitts. Anyone who could help we would greatly appreciate it! It's been a long time searching.

  • I am the daughter of Bruce McClellan, Clifton Park NY, Bruce is the son of Brinton McClellan, Darien CT and Nephew of Melvin McClellan San Diego, CA. The name George Brinton has been passed through generations as it's said we are decendents to General George Brinton although we are no longer aware of what the tree looks like.   • Hi Ya'll. My name is Chris and I was just curious who my family was related to. Most of my relatives aren't real sure so I turned to the internet for help. I do know that my ggggrand daddy was from Scotland and then migrated to Nova Scotia in the mid 1800's when he would change his name from McLellan to McClellan. I don't know who he was married to but I do know that my Grandfather was John McClellan of the Boston Area, Mass and was married to Rita Small originally from MI, in the 1940's. My father was the youngest of their three boys and Jack, Jim and Dave ( my daddy). Anyway what I am getting at is I would like to fill in the gaps in my tree and see what the real story was, since I am no longer near my family.

  • I am looking for any descendants of Sherman and Mary McClellan. The had three children, Donald, Arthur Lawrence and Yvonne. They lived in Cooke County Illinois in the 1960's. Arthur married Lois Carol Coleman in Williamson, WV in 1960. They had one son, Gary Lee, (my husband). They divorced in 1962. Arthur remarried and had atleast five more children. From information that I have gathered, Arthur died in 1980. Anyone with information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

  • I am trying to trace a William Mclelland who married Elizabeth Vallandingham. Elizabeth was the youngest daughter of George Vallandingham who died in 1810 in Allegheny County Pa. There is a William Mclelland who is buried in the Robinson's Run Cemetery in Allegheny Co. Pa. He died in 1854 at age 76, so he would be the right age.

  • My cousins and I are looking for the parents of our ancestor, Samuel Finley McClellan born about 1822 in PA. He married Hannah Emma Gould in Armstrong Co, PA on December 18, 1847. He listed his parents being born in PA in the info on the 1880 census. We lost track of him between 1847 in PA and 1870 in Lawrence County, Ohio, except for his enlistment in the 194th OVI at Camp Chase in 1865. He was a collier by trade.

  • Hello my Mcclellan cousin, my 2 Mcclellan sisters and 3 Mcclellan brothers and i are from Indianapolis, Indiana. Between us all we have 32 children and grandchildren. My fathers name is James w. Mcclellan, he has 2 living brothers and 2 living sisters they are all in their 80's. My Uncle Joe has a son and daughter. and also grandkids. my mom's name is patricia f.phelps-mcclellan.
    Our grandfather was joseph p.mcclellan, he was born july 24 1893 and died august 29 1974. His wife was florence frances burgess-mcclellan. He (grandpa) had 6 sisters and i have their names somewhere around the house here. One of his sisters used to have a book with all the family names in it but now she can't remember anything about where it is. (Go figure, she is in her 80's also) their mother Margaret Schinkle/Schingle? Was married to their father, I think his name was pearson/pierson/pierce mcclellan, he left his wife and 7 kids one day and never returned. That was when my grandfather (Joseph) was a boy. He said they both had bad tempers and she was always nagging her husband, apparently he got mad and left. They never knew what happened to him but my aunt thinks he was originally from around Salem Indiana. So much for the scottish temper!
    She also thinks we are related to one of the two general George Mcclellans. (One of the generals doesn't have descendents) we have lived in Indianapolis for many years. There is also a family of Mcclellans that have been here (Indy) for many years also and they are the Paul Mcclellan family. I don't know too much about them but there are a lot of them too. In the past few years there have been more mcclellans that have moved here and also I believe some black Mcclellans. The family history said that we were related to General McClellan of the Civil War, but his information is that our common ancestor, Charlotta McClellan (who married James Leslie of Ohio), was actually the sister of General George McClellan.   • I have been told that the family is related to Gen. George B. McClellan and to Betsy Ross and that the family tree goes back to a last name of Brown that came over on the Mayflower. I am 52 years old now but I do remember when I was in elementary school visting a relative of my fathers father, in p state New York who had the family tree framed and hanging on a wall in there house. Many people would stand in front of it and talk about the General, Betsy Ross, and the last name Brown. The Kennedys are also on this family tree. My grandmothers maiden name was Kennedy on my fathers side. There is a geneology research paper on our family somewhere in the immediate family and I intend to find it and post it. I just stumbled onto this site tonight and found all this most interesting.

    The name comes from a scottish clan. I have info on this as well and will write about it with in the week.

  • I am at a dead end. My gggrandmother was Grace Elizebeth MCCLELLAN who married Floyd Douglas SCOTT and later Harry JOSEPH. Grace came from Sycamore Ohio and died sometime around 1942 in Toledo. She is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery (in Sycamore, I think).
    I believe her parents were Elmer Yokum and Adelle (HILL) MCCLELLAN. My grandmother talks about a Stella and Andy MCCLELLAN who she thought were an aunt and uncle.

  • Thanks Eric for the suggestion: I'm searching for the parents of Thomas McCLellan, born in Mo. 1867. His father's name is also Thomas, born in Scotland according to the son's death certificate. Mother was also born in Scotland, but her name is unknown. I estimate their birth @DeleteThisExtraText@ 1835-40. Marriage @DeleteThisExtraText@ 1860-65. Thomas, the son, had 7 children all born in St. Louis, Mo.: Mary E., Thomas F., Edna C., Charles W., Elizabeth, George B., and Louise A. His wife was Mary E. Merrem, born 1868, in St. Louis, Mo. His death certificate says he was a Wood Finisher. He died of Throat Cancer. This is my husband's family and we would appreciate any info. There is some connection with General George B.     I have been researching a line of McClellan's who came from Ireland to New York. I know they settled in the Cherry Valley area until William McClellan, came north across the border to Niagara, Ontario, Canada. His children were married there, but the families moved to the Alton, Ontario area (Caledon, Grey County etc). William came in the 1700's, his children, Martin, John etc, were married 1802/1803 to Thompson, Grant and other families. I have much research done on this line and it's many branches, however I also have many gaps I would like to fill as well.

    My grandmother's grandmothers name was Susan McClellan. She married George Washington Walton. She and George lived somewhere in upstate New York, in the Keene Valley/Lake Placid area. They had eight children (my grandmother thinks). One of their children was Harold Henderson Walton. He was born in Lincoln, Vermont on October 28, 1881 and died in Monroe, New York sometime during the 1950's. If anyone has any information I would appreciate hearing from you.
