Basic Theory and Weak Statement
The total free energy of a system, G, has three contributions
- g = free energy of per unit volume of atoms in the bulk solid phase
- g = interfacial tension
- G= free energy per unit length of the triple junction
The free energy reduction per unit volume of atoms crossing an interface is denoted by p, the driving 'pressure' on the interface. This driving pressure is proportional to the normal velocity of the interface, vn , by the interface mobility, m.
The energy change is related to the magnitude of the interface migration, δrn.
Substituting for p, the Weak statement is generated.
