Beginning in 1947 aerial photographs were taken of Michigan. They have proven to be very useful in analyzing change in the landscape over time. Some of the information that can be gathered from these images include tree inventories per parcel, street tree locations, and surface area of impervious surfaces. Comparing images to one another can be a useful tool for analysis of the landscape evolution. The Map Library at the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor Planning Department supplied the aerial views for this research.
