This project invited speculations on the civic identity of a prominent site now used for parking. We are aware that anything proposed here might make people have to walk another couple of hundred feet to their cars. We hear that walkability sells downtowns, however. Although we had access to market research, and were aware of some existing resources, such as the community center where we met, it seemed better to open the project to imaginative proposals for any kind. All that we asked is what would add to the identity of the downtown, and how could that benefit someone besides its imagined owners. While we cannot predict what kind of public-private collaborations could make this possible, we believe they exist.
