Thrash Boxing

This is a style that is a modern outgrowth of Capoeira and other similar war dances, fused with the moves from Mosh Pits and Break Dancing Battles, found in the Dance Clubs and Raves in cities around the world. In the beginning of the Break Dancing fad in the late seventies, many young dancers started having mock combats on the dance floors spinning, punching and kicking at each other but never actually connecting the blows.

These dances combined with Capoeira influences created a very beautiful, fluid, artistic style that involved lots of acrobatic movements, but was not very useful in a real fight. Soon various street toughs and punks started to join in the dances bringing real contact along with street Kung Fu, Western Kickboxing, and Karate moves to the style, along with the slam dancing and Punk pogo elements.

A few truly dedicated dancers and fighters have honed these movements into an effective martial arts style. It is a very physical style that often involves throwing ones entire body at an opponent. Lots of circular kicks and sweeps are combined with straight line punches, long slide kicks across the dance floor, and body checks and slams, all done to a pumping bass beat that drives the basic steps and energizes the fighter.

Schools: It is not a well known style and has few masters and no established schools that teach it. Mostly it is taught informally at Dance Clubs and among dance enthusiasts.  Some clubs have a Thrash Boxing circle that frequent their dance floors where students can learn the style. However most people who see it in the clubs, even if they recognize it as a martial art they often confuse it with a form of Capoeira with urban dance influences.

Members: Most Thrash Boxers are street kids who gravitated to the Dance Clubs and found a Thrash Boxing circle that taught them the style. Thrash Boxers can be found in almost any city in the world as long as there are clubs or other places where people go to dance.

(Yes, I know this style isn’t real, and that it is pretty silly. But there are some characters from the various Fighting Games that have a fighting style very similar to this one. Also Street Fighter the Storytelling Game is all about this kind of Silliness sometimes.)
