People turning into inanimate anthropomorphic objects may sound like an odd event, but in the world of Buffy and Angel it happens quite a bit. Poor cursed souls being turned into anything from Ventriloquist Dummies to Felt and Foam puppets. This Quality also works for people who find their spirits trapped in small stone statues, Chucky dolls, department store mannequins, voodoo dolls, or carven wooden tiki (Hey it can happen don’t laugh). Basically any inanimate object that has a human shape can use this quality.
The Puppet
quality is in many ways similar to the Robot quality, they both determine
their life points normally, but they do not heal damage on their own
like normal humans. Either an Art or Mr. Fix-It roll is required to repair a
Puppet after it is damaged. Each success level in an Art or Mr. Fix-It
and Intelligence roll restores one Life Point per Constitution level;
each repair attempt takes one hour. When a Puppet falls “unconscious”
the puppet is inactive until it makes its own roll to recover
consciousness or it is repaired. Puppets can be killed normally if they
take enough damage as per normal death checks.On the brighter side Puppets take damage in a different way then normal folks bash damage does little to a sock puppet, bullets and knives mean little if your internal organs are made of foam or wood, and even severed limbs (or Noses) can be reattached or sewn back on. As a result Puppets have Reduced Damage (All) Level 1 and Natural Toughness. They’re also Immortal (0), but their also puppets so it’s a trade off.
Normal small Puppet like Sid or Puppet Angel, have Strength -2 due to their smaller stature. But some larger Puppets can buy off this drawback and even gain Enhanced Strength. The Puppet quality can be altered with various Supernatural powers such as Enhanced Attributes, Natural Armor, and Unique Kill. Puppets that have been around a while can also take the Age Quality.
There is also no escaping the fact that Puppets are Definitely not human giving them the equivalent of Unattractiveness -2. Some puppets can buy positive levels of attractiveness to offset this Drawback but it usually makes them more cute and cuddly rather then handsome or beautiful.
All puppets also have increased emotions due to the vessel that contains their life essence being much smaller in proportion than normal, if they’re prone to strong emotions as humans those feelings are only increased as Puppets. Sid was a very horny dummy, and Angel was a very angry wee puppet man. This overabundance of emotion gives Puppets the equivalent to an additional -1 level to Drawbacks such as Covetous, Emotional Problems, or Mental Problems.
