Library Services

The University of Michigan Library offers a wide range of data services to help the U-M community meet their research needs. The following services offer consultation, training, and resources on a variety of data-related topics.

  • Metadata Consultation Services - Metadata Consultation Services can assist in identifying strategies, standards, and tools for the creation of metadata for research data.
  • Research Data Services - Research Data Services is a network of services throughout the library to assist you during all phases of the research data lifecycle.
  • Spatial and Numeric Data Services - Spatial and Numeric Data Services (SAND) assists the U-M community with locating, acquiring, and using spatial and numeric data.
  • Data Visualization - The Library offers open workshops (on specific tools and basic principles), in-course instruction, and individual consultations on data visualization, as well as help finding appropriate data sets.
  • Scholarspace - Scholarspace assists the U-M campus community to learn, discover, and explore new ideas, try new technologies, and test new applications of existing technologies for learning, teaching, and research.
  • Design Labs - The DMC’s Design Labs are creative learning environments that support initiatives to bridge disciplines, build networks and discover new contexts for scholarship.
  • Digital Library Platform & Services (DLPS) - DLPS offers services to digitize books and other materials and make collections of those materials accessible online. DLPS has expertise in developing digital library software, creating digital preservation solutions, encoding text, and supporting digital video.
  • Digital Media Commons - University of Michigan’s Digital Media Commons (DMC) provides students, faculty and staff access to a state-of-the-art multimedia facility with visualization and virtual reality technologies.
  • Digital Projects Studio - The University of Michigan Libraries – Digital Project Studio offers support for a wide range of visualization related activities and projects.
