Jobs

So, currently work is in the process of getting it's act together on a reorganization. The outcome of which will give me much more work. It sounds interesting, so I really didn't mind. So, mentally, I have been all hyped up for this for some time.

Yesterday, I got a phone call from a friend who works in a large school of U of M. He told me that he had taken a promotion in another school, and was recommending me to replace him. If, I apply, and I get the job, it would be a lot of work, but very interesting. So, much like above, but it would also entail a very large raise.

So, you may wonder why I would even consider not applying...so am I. I know I could ultimately do the new job. I know it would be a lot of work, and while that doesn't sound enticing, it would be very interesting. More interesting than the reorg. So, what is it? Fear of change is a large part of it I think. I left my current department once before, for a promotion in another department. It was horrendous. I quit and came back to my old department after 6 months. Granted this is a different department, and I know more about the situation that I would be walking into. Not the poitical nightmare with no support that I dealt with last time. I think it boils down to 'once bitten, twice shy.' There is no way to know what the environment would be like without going. I like my work environment. I like who I work with. They pay crap though. So, I am pondering.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

So, I am feeling better! Not 100%, but most definitely better. Today is day 5 on antibiotics, and my chest congestion is just about gone. I apparently still have the viral thing, which makes sense, since antibiotics do nothing for it. My sinuses are still clogged to high hell, but the chest congestion is gone! Now you may wonder why that is so exciting, but I take chest congestion of any kind extremely seriously. There is a story here.

As a child, I had a very bad bout (is that spelled right?) of something for my 4th birthday. So bad in fact that I was hospitalized for 5 days or so, with IV's and everything. They didn't know what was going on, just that I had a temp of about 104, and was very lethargic (kinda goes with that kind of fever if you ask me). Well, needless to say, I survived it. I got better, but my immune system was thrown for a loop. Ever since, I have had what one doctor many years ago referred to as a weak immune response. I got chicken pocks so badly that I had them in my throat, and between my toes, and over every inch of my body. That was about a year after the inital sickness. So, ever since, I don't fight colds, flu or anything extremely well.

Well, about 8 years ago, I developed a case of Bronchitis. I got pretty bad, and the doctor put me on antibiotics, after about a week. It was too late. I ended up with Bronchial Pneumonia, and was bedridden for about 4 weeks. Literally, ever time I stood up, I had a very bad coughing jag. You see, my lungs are also weak, from being Asthmatic. So, couple that with a crappy immune response, and see what happens?!?!

5 years ago, I ended up with a bad case of bronchitis, which lasted about 3 wekes, and they ended up needing to add steroids to the long list of drugs to get me under control.

So, anytime I have the slightest chest congestion, I freak out. I get petrified that I will end up in bed forever again. I refuse to allow that. I bully my doctor into antibiotics if that is what it takes. Generally, I will spend a day or 2 trying to over the counter medicate it, but this time I was smart, I got the antibiotics, and feel better!

Better living through chemistry.

Now, my thoughts are with my friends and family who all seem to have this. Best of luck to you all, and may you get better soon!

Sick, continued, even more....

I am now home. Work didn't want me there. I went to the doctor. I didn't take no for answer. I have antibiotics, alupent inhaler, and codeine cough syrup. Yay me. Now I just must get better.

Sick, continued

So, my throat thing seems to have morphed into a Bronchial thing. I coughed all last night, and all day today. The last time this happened, I ended up with Bronchial Pneumonia. I called the doctor's office. The nurse wasn't going to even schedule an appointment. She said to just wait and see how I am Monday. I threw a fit, and am leaving for their Canton office in 5 minutes. I will NOT have Bronchial Pneumonia again. I was miserable for weeks last time. They WILL give me antibiotics this time! Positive thoughts, and a bitchy attitude should get me what I want and need. I will not take no for an answer.

Sick

So, I am sick. I truly hate being sick. I generally detest it. Which is not to say others don't. I am just sharing my thoughts...

It started on Thursday of last week. I had a minor sore throat. This continued on through Monday morning. I finally broke down and went to the doctor at Patrick's insistence. After a quick temperature (did you know they have a gizmo now that gives an accuarte reading in about 5 seconds?), and a look down my throat and some questions, he told me that I have a viral infection in my throat. HE said it was similar to Strep, but Viral in nature, and not Bacterial, so in essence, my $15 co-pay was wasted money. The physician could not cure me. I was sad. I had actually hoped it was Strep, just so anti-biotics would work. So, I came home Monday and my throat got progressively worse, and continued to do so through Tuesday. I stayed home from work, and was bored out of my mind. I am at work today, and beginning to wish I had stayed home again. I don't feel particularly bad, just very hot, and my sore throat is still sore. (Temp was 99.8 on Monday...haven't checked it since.) Several people are out sick with my exact symptoms today.

House

We finished plantings everything over the weekend. That is good. We still have 6 bags of topsoil in my car to unload, and put on top of the planting beds though. I am really looking forward to having a few quiet weekends this winter. They have been inshort supply since we first put our old house up for sale....

You're Jack!
If there's some Jack in you anywhere, he's probably
not hiding; anyone who's seen the show on which

that presence is about as stereotypically gay

a gay man? If not, perhaps you should give it a
try; you may find it quite comfortable.

Dinner

Last night, Matthew and I made dinner. It ended up being served rather late but it was quite good. We made Shepherd's Pie. We cut the recipe in half, and had enough for 3 people, and leftovers for lunch today! So, be warned if you try and make this!

Blogs
Does anyone else read other Blogs? I mean the ones outside of your circle of friends? Everyday, once, I load Blogger, and read the 10 most recently published Blogs. Every once in a while, I read one which strikes a cord in me, and I either email the person, or post a comment. Lately, I have begun to wonder how rare this is. Anyone else do this?

Work

Last night, much in her normal way, our controller called a meeting with me, my boss, and his boss at 5:00 p.m. We were meeting about a problem that needed to be resolved several days ago, which she has not had time to get our input on until last night. So, we met, and met, and met. I left here at 6:20. I arrived home at 6:40. I started work yesterday at 7:00 a.m. That was a long damn day....

Bush

President Bush endorsed the "Marriage Protection Week," Oct. 12-18, that was announced last week by the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, Focus on the Family and representatives from over 20 other ultra-conservative, anti-gay organizations. One of the coalition's goals is to build support for a Constitutional amendment to permanently deny civil marriage to same-sex couples.

Bastard.

Tired

I am so tired. This weekend was exhausting. A list of what was accomplished is below:

Bought more plants for the planting beds
Drove around reviewing landscaping we liked/didn't like
Planted a bunch of plants in the yard, all in solid clay...so much fun to dig
Hung the cabinets in the Laundry room
Cleaned the garage out, so our cars can enter it finally
Attended a fall party at Nick and Wes' home in Tecumseh
Helped move Lisamarie
Helped Matthew with 2 Roman Shades
5 loads of laundry
4 loads of dishes
helped several workmen around the house fixing new construction problems
straightened up living room, den and kitchen
sent James my character info for the Buffy game

I am frigging exhausted from it. I want a down day or 2. You know? Just some time to Veg-out, and do nothing. Can't though. We are having a housewarming on Saturday. Much is still to be done. Much food prep and shopping still need to happen. *sigh* I will relax in November.

Lots done...Lots to do

So, this week has been a busy one. The landscaper has been at the house all week. He put the sprinkler system in. He grated the yard, and raked it smooth. He also removed a full truckload of stones and gravel that the builder left behind in the yard. He even provided some free fill dirt. Today his subcontractor for hydroseed is spraying down the grass seed. The only concern I have is that 2 of the sprinkler heads are on the neighbors property, I think. I need to talk to him about it tonight when he stops by to teach us to use the system.

We have bought some plants for the front planting beds, but need more. We need to plant those this weekend. We also need to clean the garage out, and get the cars into it. We need to help Matthew with the shades in the kitchen. Finally, I want to hang the cabinets we bought for the laundry room. We also have a housewarming to go to in Tecumseh, and are helping LM move on Sunday. So, I think if we manage everything, it will be a miracle, and we will be totally exhausted. We shall see. Does anyone know how to hang cabinets? If so email me what to do! Please?!

Flu Shots

Apparently the Flu this year is going to be especially virulent. So, getting a flu shot sounds good. We are having a Flu Shot clinic here at work this month, so I think I will get mine.
