Hi, my name is Jarrod, and I'm an accountant. "Hi, Jarrod!"

*sigh*

So, lately my profession bugs me.

Enron, WorldCom, Xerox...

I always thought my job was to accurately reflect what was happening with the company's books. Apparently, if you've been following the news lately, an accountant's job is to misstate and hide losses, reclassify statements so they look profitable, and in general, to lie to everyone. I HAD thought I worked in a somewhat honorable profession. *sigh*

Work:
Also translated as a common 4-letter word !@&*.

So apparently some accounting supervisors received equity adjustments yesterday. I was not one of them. I have been out-earning them for several years. It was decided that people with similar years of experience as supervisors should make similar wages. In theory, okay. BUT, I was making more because I got better raises. Because I EARNED better raises. What the FUCK is the point of working hard if you don't get rewarded for it? I don't begrudge the recipients their raises, I begrudge, and HATE a system that rewards incompetence as much as competence. Fuck this job. I am gonna look at the posting board.

Frustration:

So, last year Ypsi Twp., changed it's "Brush Collection" rules. Instead of the truck coming by once a week, following the trash truck, it now comes if you place a "Brush Collection Order". You simply call the township offices and tell them you have brush needing to be removed. In theory, this is a great system. It saves money on unneeded driving around looking for brush. There are 2 problems though:

1. Lazy people - people who just assume it will happen eventually if they leave the brush sitting out a few months at the curb, it will magically go away. Being the anal-retentive freak that I am, I generally call in a brush collection order for them after a month or so.

2. Bureaucracy - The drivers only stop at your house if you are on the list. If you and your neighbor both have brush, and your neighbor calls....they don't pick up YOUR brush.... How STUPID is that?!?!?!?

So, if you hadn't guessed...I'm back from Milwaukee. I have to admit that my opinion of the town has changed. Last year I thought it was an armpit of America. This year, I actually got to see some cool things. It is much better than an armpit. (just so you know.)

Pookie:
The pookie is not being in a good mood this week. I think it has to do with him getting up early. He is tired. He is doing a training class thing in Livonia or thereabouts. He is also doing mandatory overtime. Work sucks.

I have an acute sense of style. And who wouldn't with a 12 foot wingspan? I can be a little cocky, but not without grounds. Mine is a battle of tact as well as strength, as flight won't win alone. Like the archangels of lore, I have a sharp eye, and a keen sense of danger. I seek out injustice, and I stop it. From above.

What's your superpower?

So, Patrick and I got Bikes around Christmas last year. We took them out the other night. Finally. We rode for an hour or so, probably about 4 miles.

Well, all day yesterday, and this morning....MY BUTT HURTS! Getting old sucks.

Last night we had dinner with a classmate of Patrick's, and the classmate's wife. It was good. We went to Tuptim (Thai Food), had a very nice conversation, and pleasant dinner.

Okay...Time to catch this up.

Deck
It is done!!!!! It is done!!! It is done!
(As I type, I can't help hearing the song in my head..."Ding dong the witch is dead....")

Things get so tense when we "work on projects". I am very happy that it is over. We are both feeling much better.

Patrick's Birthday
Yay! The sweetie liked his digital camera. I was so happy! It seemed like he enjoyed his birthday. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. We got many complements on the deck. I felt bad for Liz and Jeff though. Having her car breakdown at our place was a bad thing. Bad car.

Work
So, on Sunday, I have to fly out to CMI (Cacubo/Collegiate Management Institute) in Milwaukee. It is year 2 of a 2 year conference designed to train people how to effectively manage staff, projects, etc. We send 4 people or so per year, so since it is a 2 year program, we generally have 8 or so people going every year. Personally, this makes no sense to me. I mean, I have been a manager for 3 years. NOW THEY TRAIN ME! *sigh*

I don't wanna go. Besides, I have this horrible fear of flying. I absolutely abhor it. I am sure it is partly the fact that I must give up control of my life, and put it into someone else's (Pilot's) hands. If you know me, you probably know I am a control freak. Let alone my incredible fear of heights, edges, and fiery death.
