One step at a time...
Each step form weighed 114 pounds. All twelve of them had to be gently placed into position.

The bottom rank of six were the most difficult because you have to maintain the grade and compression of the sand base. It was tricky to hold onto the forms from the inside and lower them straight down into place, butting them up against each other and the house.

Chris shoveled sand into the hollows of the step forms and laid the pavers, since she wasn't much help lifting the big blocks. We figured that we used a little more than three quarters of a ton of material to build these steps.
Jim took the steps out for a "shake down" sit. They worked flawlessly. We tried opening the door to get in and out of the house, then let the kitties in and out (several times). They were so roomy, Jim never had to move or fear getting whacked by the door.
