Debriefing

It is a fantastical tale, for certain, but not within the realm of totally unbelievable -- the spirit of Brand, once one of the most reviled of this family, has been sent back to Amber from the Abyss by a former High Priest of the Serpent to help root out a hidden evil. The evil, in this case, being Brand's sister Fiona, who has replaced Caroline as Queen and taken her form.

I didn't have as hard a time believing it as I might have been some time ago; I think what disturbed me more what that, yet again, Mythos did not seem to be able to trust me enough to present the information to me squarely, instead talking to all the others, and actively trying to hide what she'd discover. I wondered if that was ever going to change, and I decided that that combined with the news was enough to put the news of my taking my Grandfather's position away for another time. The yoke of responsibility that the Lord Marshall position entails has not weighed too heavily, and I was able to force Grandmother into the promise that our transition be not so abrupt as hers, two thousand years prior.

While the players in our drama here have been identified, there is still the issue of what to do next. Fiona, as Caroline, is in a well-protected situation. Not only is she shielded by her position as the Queen, her magical powers are unmatched -- even by Brand. It seems that she has tapped into an ancient power source known as the Font of Power. This is the same power source that originally drove Brand to madness, provoking all of the difficulty this land has ever known.

Obviously, a frontal assault is unwise. My thinking was that if enough luminaries here were to confront the King with our (meager) evidence, we could all act to try to neutralize Fiona. My grandmother was not behind this plan, though. That was unfortunate, as the Church wields hefty power, political or otherwise. While none of us are certain of the existence of this Font (Brand is uncertain since the mergence of the multiverses), it has been decided that perhaps a trip into Shadow is in order. If we can find this place, we may be able to find a way to nullify its effects -- or, if necessary, to destroy it.
