Griffin

Claire

You were like riding an unbroken stallion
Or swimming in unknown sea
Living and loving as fierce
As a hurricane pummels the beach

You ran hot and cold like a faucet
Love/hate, like raindrops poured
An angel's face with a devil's tongue
You could shove me away, leave me begging for more

I was just a kid, and you less aged
Children playing a killing game
And when the killing was said and done
I'd lost one half the same

* * * * *

Now your ghost has faded
With time and company
And it did not feel wrong to tell myself
My heart should turn to see

The Pattern, though, has summoned you
From a place quite far beyond
And the grief that overwhelmed me then
Begins to build anon

My efforts now require sleep
Yet I cringe to see your face in dreams
And my only hope to reconcile
Is explain you to her, it seems
