Kain Darkwind wrote:Qlippoth -Demons formed straight from The Abyss:
These creatures were born from The Abyss itself when it became part of the Realms Beyond during the Advent of Law prior to the Sundering of the Three. To some -- particularly many angelic choirs -- qlippoth are considered the truest demons.

• Fast healing
• Immunity to poison and mind-affecting effects.
• Resistance 10 to four forms of energy.
• Telepathy 100 ft
• Unraveling Visage (Su): Any being that sees a qlippoth within 60 feet must make a Will save or else begin to go insane. The saving throw DC is Charisma-based, and the specific form of insanity induced is included in each creature's entry.

Maleidolon -Demons formed from the hidden evil in the hearts of other creatures:
Originally formed from the purged evil of the gods, their origins currently has expanded to nearly all creatures, mortal and immortal. Hidden evil thoughts and chaotic evil desires result in these demons.

• Immunity to poison and three types of energy.
• Resistance 10 to one type of energy.
• Summon (Sp): Maleidolon share the ability to summon creatures of the Mortal Coil (the success chance and type of creature summoned are noted in each monster description).
• Telepathy 100 ft

Mazza'im -Demons formed from mortal souls:
The best known and most feared of the various demon types so far as mortals are concerned, the mazza'im are the dominant spirits of The Abyss and constitute the greatest threat to the Mortal Coil to many.

• Immunity to poison and one type of energy.
• Resistance 10 to three types of energy.
• Summon (Sp): Mazza'im share the ability to summon others of their kind (the success chance and type of demon summoned are noted in each monster description).
• Telepathy 100 ft
Led by some wondrous power, I am fated to journey hand in hand with my strange heroes and to survey the surging immensity of life, to survey it through the laughter that all can see and through the tears unseen and unknown by anyone.

Ok, I know this is an old teaser (over 2 years now), and it may not be representive of what HotA looks like today, and even if it is, the Horrors team may not want to go into further detail, but I had a question..

What is the difference between the qlippoth and yaldabaoth? This teaser said that the qlippoth were born of the Abyss itself, and that the realms above consider them to be the truest demons. That sounds similar to the hellspawn, what with the being born from the plane and all that. So then....what are the yaldabaoth? I remember Serge saying something about them being the first demons, and how they were at least equal in power to the hellspawn, and probably stronger.

Anyways, I just wanted to know the difference between the two.

Qlippothim were born directly from the plane, but they are very much different from the hellspawn. They are a species, not a singular creature, and run the gamut of challenge ratings. Some are as low as CR 6, others are epic.

Yaldabaoths are demons that predate the formation of The Abyss. They were the original inhabitants of the Primal Coil, though a sizable number were destroyed by the Circle of Law after The Demiurge was cast down. Most are now gone from the cosmos, though a handful of these unfathomably ancient monstrosities still survive.

So qlippothim are born from The Abyss. Yaldabaoths predate The Abyss.
