Which Demon Prince would you point to as being the most "badass"?

Sounds good, though I'd need to know how you define badass to know where you are coming from in this. We can conduct this in another thread if this is too off-topic.

No, this is definitely part of the point.

I also say Demogorgon, but I'd say that even if he wasn't the most powerful. He best represents The Abyss: wanton destruction and hatred for the sole purpose of causing chaos and misery to all. He supports madness and violence. He's a psychopath taken to its ultimate level: no empathy nor sympathy; just the desire to cause pain, torment, and anarchy. Plus he looks cool as all hell: everything humanity fears (the depths, reptiles, and their own warped ape-based animality) is wrapped up in a nice package in the Prince of Demons.

This used to be on the Pale Night thread, Serge, I moved it. ;) That's what he's referring to.

I agree that one needs to define badass in order to properly suggest a winner here. Is it defeating crazy odds? Demogorgon doesn't come close due to his sheer personal power...little in this cosmos is a challenge to him. When I hear that word, I picture Graz'zt. He's slick, sexy, and manages to convince the multiverse he's the sanest and most reasonable of demon princes. He likes to come off as the guy who will get up in your face if he has a problem with you, but he's also cheerfully stabbing you in the back with some subtle plot at the same time. Sephiroth was clearly based on Graz'zt. Think about it, a crazy and evil mother, beautiful male, an iconic sword recognized by all in the world they inhabit...it's him.

"He's like Sephiroth" is supposed to be an argument for his badassedness? Sephy-poo snaps like a twig when he finds out who mommy is, slaughters a defenceless village in an emo fit, gets chucked into a pit by a complete rookie, then spends the next decade or so trapped in a crystal while mom puppeteers a bunch of his clones around before getting amped up to demi-godhood only to loose a fight with a rag-tag group of emotional cripples.

But I digress and ramble.

I would agree that Graz'zt is a good candidate.

Demo is somewhat disqualified by his raw power, badassery is primarily based on attitude and deeds, and starting off better than one's peers makes you a little too... "safe" for lack of a better word.

Orcus clawed his way back from death, though as the prince of undeath that's kinda expected. Killing and replacing an undisputed highest lord of a plane however is not, so he gets big points there.

Pazuzu claims the skies of the all the Abyss as his domain. Since that infringes on the domains of every other Lord, Prince and miscellaneous entity out there this has to take a lot of balls. Plus he has that whole thrice naming racket going on, which seems pretty simple and effective. How many people falling to their deaths have called on the easy-to-summon bird creature in the heat of the moment?

Fraz-Urb'luu also wasn't afraid to step on a few toes, though looking at how that turned out it may just have been arrogant stupidity. But hey, lots of badasses are arrogant morons.

Baphomet seems like a good candidate, but I'm hard pressed to remember him doing anything particularly monumental.

Then there's Lolth, that "War of the Spider Queen" stunt was a huge risk on her part given how vulnerable she and her assets were left during the event.

I'd say Demogorgon, but he's so strong that it really does tarnish the luster. My dark horse? Pale Night. Reading the 3.5 fluff, I was always impressed how she survived the obyrith age, trapped a generation of eladrin within Androlynne and is rumored to be the mother from everything from Graz'zt to the entire harpy race. She's badass in a quiet, mysterious sort of way.

If Demogorgon's out of the running due to being too powerful, I'm gonna go with Orcus. Coming back from the dead by his own power, masquerading as a someone whose nature was antithetical to his own, holding his own against an equal and a superior for countless millennia, being personally responsible for giving us vampires and liches, and just not giving a damn about anything except killing absolutely everything in the multiverse, all adds up to a pretty badass demon.

Yeah, I'll chime in for Orcus as well. He's smacked down gods and cosmic entities (in their own realms), spurned death after getting killed by a god who ambushed him, and come back more powerful, and has that goddess terrified of when, not if, he comes to repay her in kind. He's the most spiteful of all the demons I can think of, and spite seems to be a really big part of Bad-donkeyism.

I'll third Orcus. In addition to what Dia and WD have said, he clawed his way up to demon prince status all the way from being a mane - the others were either born somewhere around their current power level, or have gone down from what they were originally at. In fact, apart from Bael, I can't think of any other entity that's had to earn each and every bit of their power.

I'm going to say Orcus too, primarily because Demogorgon is too powerful for the odds to be stacked against him in pretty much any situation. Furthermore, Orcus is brutal, direct, and angry. His unrelenting wrath and spite and the frequency at which he acts on it is what solidifies him as badass in my opinion. Graz'zt and his mother are really more of a pair of Magnificent Bastards by comparison.

The reason I don't care for Orcus is because it's become the fanboys go-to.

I still stand beside Demogorgon. Given how The Abyss is a place for change and flux, I think it's amazing that he's been the Prince of Demons for so long in either WotC material or our own.

You know who I thought was pretty badass, after Graz'zt? Pazuzu. This guy is so casually cruel, puts his name out there for folks to call on him for help, and when he arrives, takes from them a price much higher than any they would knowingly pay.

Plus, there was this one time, where this mortal told him to do something and he said she didn't say the magic word and tore her friend's finger off. Then later, when she tried to use a potion on someone else he'd hurt, he used telekinesis to smash the potion into the person's face, telling her she forgot the magic word again. Little stuff like that makes all the difference.

Even better. But note, Orcus was my second choice; if personal power doesn't keep you from being a badass (which I really think it shouldn't), then I definitely pick Demogorgon.

If I was ever going to have a character of mine impregnated by a Demon Prince, Pazuzu would be my second choice.

Well, Yeenoghu (Who I'm a huge fan of) subjegated Dorsain despite him having the protection of Orcus, and has made countless attacks on Baphomet.

Baphomet is just an overall epic warlord.

Demogorgon is the most powerful Demon evar and looks really awesome, but he appears more feral and monstrous than badass.

Pale Night and Graz'zt, though epic, are more scheming than badass.

Jublilex, Malcanthet, Zuggtmoy, and Kostarchie have had their fair share of battles.

But overall, I'd say the most badass is Orcus. He looks epic, came back from the dead, slew a bunch of Gods, and has attacked Graz'zt and Demogorgon countless time.

My vote goes to Apollyon. There's just something about destroying the cosmos that yells Badass to me. Demogorgon is up there too (partly for the same reason), but he's such an obvious choice.

I really like what DF has done to Orcus, but Ocrus is repulsive... and in my book, badasses shouldn't be repulsive.

Hey. I have one of those too!

Remember kiddies it's
Ocrus
that is repulsive and therefore not-badass in the Book of Bartleby.

Viva Balan, Demon Prince of Carnage!

Thread necromancy, a term used to describe responding to old (dead) threads and possibly breathing some semblance of corrupted life back into them.

Orcus, a demon prince focused on the undead.

Bartleby, a poster who revived a thread nearly dead for a full year.

Jaerc was teasing you that you, as a post necromancer, must really like Orcus, rather than another demon prince. And you shot his joke to pieces. Its blood is crying out for justice.
