Teaching

Winter 2018

I currently hold discussion sections for Math 296, Honors Math II, and Math 494, Honors Algebra II, at UM. Notes can be found below.

Math 296: Honors Math II
  1. Impossibility theorems for elementary integration. (I followed along Brian Conrad's Impossibility Theorems for Elementary Integration pretty closely, and anything I do not prove in that document is proved by him or the paper he cites by Rosenlicht.)
  2. What we talk about when we talk about linear algebra.
  3. Group actions.

Math 494: Honors Algebra II
  1. Sheaves on Euclidean space and manifolds.
  2. Noetherian Rings.
  3. Affine Space and the Zariski Topology.
  4. Determinant is irreducible. This is a (generalized) solution to a problem on a homework assignment, which uses material from previous discussion sections.
  5. Some facts about UFDs.
  6. Finite and integral ring extensions.
  7. Here and here are Keith Conrad's notes on tensor products, which we've been covering in discussion.
I gave a lecture about splitting fields and the primitive element theorem, and notes for that are here .
