Exercise due February 7

Writing Exercise on Mary Austin's Lost Borders

Pick any story from Lost Borders except "The Land," "The Fakir," "The Last Antelope," and "The Walking Woman." Write a brief summary of the story (less than one page, typed), so that someone who readers your summary will have a pretty good sense of its plot and the story's meaning or significance. Think of this exercise as an opportunity to really focus on one of the short stories, in a way that we modeled in class with "The Fakir." Get to know one story really well; get a feel for its characters, its action, its argument. Then summarize it for someone who has not read the story and is not very familiar with Mary Austin.

Your paragraph should be typed and is due at the beginning of class on February 7.

As usual, feel free to email me if you have any questions.
