"The marriage of Peter Meyer, son of Elias Meyer, to Elisabetha CAFFROTH on 13
Nov 1759 at Cocalico Reformed Church, Lancaster Co, PA appears in the
Lancaster County Church Records, v 7 at the State Library Harrisburg. Elias
Myers lives in Earl Twp, Lancaster County during this time period. The only
Caffroth in Cocalico Twp was a Gerdardt Caffroth. The two townships are
adjacent.

Peter Meyer and w. Maria Elizabeth are sponsors at the baptism of martinus
Ravensberger 11 Feb 1753

Incidentally, a disbursement from Peter Myers' estate went to Jacob "Kafroth"
for "Principle & Int. Bond". Gerhard Caffroth was deceased at the time Peter's
estate was settled and his Executor was Jacob Caffroth. Proof that this
marriage is our Peter and Elizabeth Myer is found in the estate of Gerhedt
Koffroth/Kaffroth.

The will of Gerhard Koffroth lists a daughter Elizabeth and an Executor Jacob
Koffroth. A release dated Feb 25 1797; recorded Jul 22 1797 lists the children
of Gerhard's daughter Elizabeth, deceased, late the wife of Peter Myers, who
left 10 children, heirs of Gerhard. These children are Conrad, Mathias, Regina
w/o Henry Noll who signed as "RenoIl", Frederick, David, Peter, Elizabeth, all
of York County and Henry - an "idiot", Adam, under lawful age, and one other
daughter. [Note: Christina is not mentioned by name or acknowledged as living
or deceased; she did not sign the release]. Conrad Meyer was Adam's guardian
and received his share. Mathias was Henry's custodian and received his share.
The entire legacy was £136. Conrad and Mathias each rec'd 27 pounds 5
shillings; the others each received 13 pounds 12 shillings 6 pence.

1779 - Tax List of York County included John Meyer with 300 acres 4 horses, 4
cattle, assessed 93.7.0 in Codorus Twp., as well as Frederick Meyer with 2
horses, 2 cattle, no acreage, no tax,
Dover Twp lists Jacob Mayer with 200 acres, 3 horses, 4 cattle, tax 58.6.8,
and Frederick Mayer with 100 acres 2 horses 1 cattle, tax assessed was
20.16.8, Nicholas Meyer 115 acres, 2 horses, 1 cattle, tax 12.10.0 and Peter
Mayer with 120 acres 3 horses, 3 cattle, taxed 33.6.8

Peter Myers bought his land in Codorus Twp., York Co., PA (formerly owned by
John Meyer) from Caspar Reinecker, a prominent citizen and landowner in the
Hanover area

granting Letters of Administration in and for this County of York in the State
of Pennsylvania personally came Ludwick Rudisil and Henry Danner, two of the
subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument of Writing and on their
Solemn Affirmation, (They conscientiously refusing the taking of an Oath) Do
severally say, that they were personally present and saw and heard the within
foregoing named Peter Meyer make his mark unto and Seal and publish the
foregoing Instrument of Writing as and for his last Will and Testament, and
that at the time of the doing thereof he the said Peter Meyer was of a sound
and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge
and belief. And that they subscribed their names thereto as Witnesses in the
Defence of the said Testator and at his request; - And that they also saw
Elizabeth Danner the other witness make her mark thereto as a witness at the
same time.

In the name of God Amen. I Peter Meyer of Codorus Township in the County of
York and State of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being old and weak in Body but yet of
Good health and of a Sound and Disposing Mind and Memory, blessed be Almighty
God for the Same Do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament: in
manner and form following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath to my
beloved wife Elizabeth Meyer  beforehand of all her Bed and Bedstead and her
chest and spinning wheel and one cow her choice further I give and bequeath
unto my said wife Elizabeth the following Right and Privilege unto my now
Messuage and plantation to have out, on, and from the Same from the Possessors
thereof the following articles Necessaries and things that is to say yearly
and every year during her Widowhood as follows, First full Right and Privilege
to that House wherein my Son Conrad Now leveth and also Privilege to the
spring thereby and free egress and Regress to and for
the Same and concerning my Son Henry who is incapable to maintain himself my
Will is that my Wife Shall keep him by her as long as She Lives if She remain
Widow and as long as my son Henry Shall live with his mother She Shall yearly
have first a Stable of under kept in Good repair for two Cows and her fodder,
and Shall yearly have two Tuns of first crop Hay and two Tuns of Second crop
Hay and Straw for Strawing as much as She Shall have need of and Shall have
Sufficient fire wood ready cut and Delivered to her Door as much as She Shall
have need of and further to have Eighteen bushels of Good Merchantable Wheat
the Same brought to the mill and the Grist ham again when ever She doth want
it and one hundred weight of good Pork with the fat therein and even so much
good Beef with the fat, and further to have the use of my Little Garden by my
old dwelling House and yearly dunged as common and yearly Eighteen pounds of
clean Hatcheled flax and twelve pounds of tow and two bushels of salt and two
pair of shoes and soled when needeth and shoes for my son Henry as much as he
shall have need of and Six pounds of
wool and a barrel of good Syder and a barrel of Water Syder and apples as much
as she doth want for making Drye apple Slices and Liberty to take six bushel
of Winter apples and to have the use oft that little spot of Ground where I
used to plant Tobaco for her to plant potatoes and the same every Two years
once Dunged and the Same yearly Plowed in right Season and Liberty to keep
about six hens and to raise and keep a hog and to have two gallons of rye and
to have the full use of that Little Meadow by her House and Liberty for
grassing in the Meadows for her Cows where she pleaseth and to have five
gallons of liquer and a Hors for Riding whenever She hath need for to go
Somwhere and to have Turneps as much as She doth want for eating if they get
any and Liberty for her Cows to go in pasture along with their Cows all those
articles my Said Wife Shall have yearly and every year during her widowhood
but in case my Son Henry Should Die and my Wife to survive him then She Shall
only have Ten bushels of Wheat in a year and only two Tuns of Hay in a year
one tun of first crop hay and one tun of second crop hay the other articles to
remain in manner aforesaid and in case my Widow Should once be Sick or to
infirm to Tend herself than my will is that my two sons to whom I give and
divide my lands as hereafter shall be saith shall keep her a maid for to do
her work. 

Item I give and devise unto my son Matthias Meyer his Heirs and assigns
forever
all that Western Division of my lands whereon he now livith Situate part
thereof in Codorus
and part thereof in Manheim Township so as the same is now laid off containing
about one
hundred and eighty six acres and the usual allowance adjoyning lands of Henry
Danner,
Peter Luckenbach, Jacob Everfolt and John Snyder and John Ham and then my
other Lands,
To hold to him my said son Matthias Meyer his Heirs or Assigns forever Subject
to the
payment and furnishing of the equal one half of all the articles aforesaid
which is to given
and allowed to my Widow and subject to the further payment of the sum of seven
hundred
pounds in real Specie Gold or Silver Money of Pennsylvania to be paid by him,
his Heirs or
assigns in manner following, in Twenty five pound gails or payments the
beginning thereof
to be made in one years time after my decease and so yearly the Sum of Twenty
five
pounds till the whole sum of seven hundred pounds being fully paid. 

Item I give and divide unto my son Frederick Meyer his Heirs and assigns
forever
all that eastern division of my said lands whereon he now liveth situate part
thereof in
Codorus and part thereof in Manheim Township so as the same is now laid off
containing
about one hundred and ninety six acres and the usual allowance adjoyning lands
of John
Ham and Daniel Ham and John Miller and Michael Miller and the other land
divided to my
son Matthias. To hold to him my son Frederick Meyer, his Heirs and Assigns
forever
Subject to the payment and Furnishing of the equal one half of all the
articles and things
aforesaid which is to be given and allowed to my Widow, and subject to the
further
payment of the sum of seven hundred pounds in Real specie gold or silver money
of
Pennsylvania to be paid by him, his heirs or assigns in manner following, in
Twenty five
pounds gails or Payments, the beginning thereof to be made in one years time
after my
decease and so yearly the sum of twenty five pounds til the whole sum of seven
hundred
pounds being fully paid, and further I give and bequeath unto my said two sons
Matthias
and Frederick unto their heirs and assigns the following right and priviledge
to and for their
said lands (to wit) My Son Matthias shall be allowed to take the water on
Frederick’s part
of land where it shall be most convenient for him and to convey it in a ditch
(or race) as
breadth as an occasion shall require to bring it on his part of Land whenever
he shall have
a mind to build anything on the Water, and Priviledge to make a dam and to
swell up the
water even with the bank but not to swell it over the bank and Liberty to go
to the Dam
with Waggon Carriage when an occasion shall require and Likewise liberty to
cleanse the
Ditch to throw out Tird, Mud and Filth and to let it ly on the bank of the
ditch and an equal
right and priviledge my son Frederick his heirs or assigns shall have to the
water dam and
ditch, on said Matthiases part of land where the Water is already conveyed.
Such
priviledge to remain to and for them their heirs and assigns forever, and
further my son
Matthias shall have priviledge to the saw mill to cut all his wood what he
shall have to cut
for his own use and shall have an equal priviledge with my son Frederick to
the old
orchards for the space of six years from the date hereof and further my will
is that from the
gails or payments which is to be made for my lands as aforesaid, the first two
hundred
pounds to be paid in twenty five pound gails as aforesaid that shall be put
out on interest
so as it comes due (or paid) and my said widow shall yearly draw the interest
thereof for
keeping my son Henry, and she shall further have the use of one of my cows for
keeping
my son Henry, and further my will is that all the Residue of the payments so
coming in for
my lands shall be equally divided between my other childrens namely to my
eldest son
Conrad, and Regina, and David, and Christina, and Peter, and Elizabeth, and
Adam, to one
of them as much as to the other in manner following in Twenty five pound gails
the first
time round first to Conrad Meyer, the other to Regina and so forth to their
succession of
age of age but in the last to be made even in share, but concerning the share
of my
daughter Christina now the wife of John Hering that her share of my real
estate so as it
comes in shall be put out in interest and if my said daughter shall survive
her now husband
then she shall draw her share like one of the others and if it by that time
had beared any
interest, she shall have them also, but in case said John Hering should
survive my said
daughter Christina then all her said share of my real estate shall fall back
in equal share to
my before named children namely Conrad, and Regina, and David, and Peter, and
Elizabeth, and Adam, and further as concerning the residue of my personal
estate shall be
sold by way of public sale and that as soon after my decease as conveniently
can be, and
after the cost, being first paid my said wife Elizabeth shall have one equal
third part
thereof in full for her share and the remainder thereof to be equally divided
between my
children, namely Conrad, and Regina, and David, and Christina, and Peter, and
Elizabeth,
and Adam, but my will is that my son-in-law John Hering shall have the sum of
five pounds
out of his wife’s share which shall then be for his share in full out of all
my estate both real
and personal and no more and the residue of my said daughter Christina’s share
shall
likewise be put out on interest and even so don as with the other as
aforesaid, and as
concerning the shares of my two sons, Matthias and Frederick I reckon them to
be so
much advanced in the lands as for their share in full out of real and personal
and further
my will is that if my son Henry should survive his mother then it is my will
that my son
Matthias shall take him and keep him in a soft and Christian manner and shall
then draw
the interest of the aforesaid two hundred pounds as aforesaid, but if my son
Henry should
come in such a condition that my son Matthias shall think it too hard to keep
him for the
interest of the two hundred pounds as aforesaid, than my will is that it shall
be judged by
two honest mans what he shall have for keeping him which shall then be taken
out of that
two hundred pounds as aforesaid and after the decease of my son Henry the
residue of the
two hundred pounds shall be equally divided among my other children that has
none of
my lands and that again in the same manner aforesaid and if my said wife
should die my
widow, than all her estate shall be equally divided in the same manner as the
aforesaid
----- and lastly I do hereto appoint and nominate my said son Matthias Meyer
Sole
Executor and my said Wife Elizabeth Meyer to be Executorix of this my Last
Will and
Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me made. Retifying and
Confirming this
and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have
hereunto set

The will of Peter Myers was written 2 Feb. 1795 and probated 24 Aug 1795. The
executor was Mathias Meyer. Codorus Twp. Wife Elizabeth Meyer, children
Conrad, Regina, David, Christiana,wife of John Hering, Peter, Elizabeth, Adam,
Henry, Mathias, and Frederick.

and upwards, 2 males under 16, 4 females
Came into Court Elizabeth Meyer aged sixteen years a Minor Daughter of Peter
Meyer Deceased and prayed to be permitted to Chuse a Guardian and on being
asked by the Court named Conrad Meyer Whereupon the Court approve of and
appoint the Said Conrad Meyer to be Guardian of the person and estate of Said
Minor.
Came into Court Adam Meyer Orphan Child of Peter Meyer aged Fourteen years and
prayed to be permitted to chuse a Guardian and being asked by the Court named
Conrad Meyer to be guardian of the person and Estate of Said Orphan.
Came into Court Peter Meyer an Orphan son of Peter Meyer Deceased aged
Nineteen years and prayed to be permitted to Chuse a Guardian and on being
asked by the Court named Adam Hoffman. Whereupon the Court approve of and
appoint the said Adam Hoffman to be Guardian of the person and Estate of the
Said Orphan.

Peter is not on the 1783 tax lists of York Co in Codorus/Maheim Twp; Frederick
& Melchior [Mathias?] Myers are in Manheim & John in Codorus on 1783 list.
In 1779 tax list Peter owns no land, 2 horses, 2 cattle. John Myer owned land
in Codorus in 1768, but his survey not recorded till early 1800 when the land
sold by Frederick & Mathias Myers; Peter may have rec'd land from John, then
given it to Mathias; so, what is Peter's relation to John?
Will of Magdalena, widow of John of Codorus Twp, dated Mar 27 1789, probated
Apr 8 1789 names "only son John (his eldest daughter Magdalena)". (YCHS Myers

1795 Guardians are appointed for issue of late Peter Meyer, viz. Elizabeth
(16), Adams (14) and Peter (19). Conrad Meyer was one of the guardians named.

Peter's will divided his lands to Mathias and Frederick. Mathias recieved 186
acres adjoining land of Henry Danner, Peter Luckenbach, Jacob Everfolt and
John Snyder & John Ham, subject to payment of £700, payable £25 per year to
the heirs. Frederick recieved 196 acres adjoining lands of John Ham, Daniel
Ham, John Miller, Michael Miller and land given to Mathias for £700 payable
the same as Mathias paid. His widow had rights to the house where his son
Conrad then lived and annual crops from Mathias and Frederick,gardening &
grazing rights and stable rights for her animals. His personal estate was
valued at £397 in the Final Accounting dated Dec 27 1796.

1790 US Census, PA, York Co., Codorus Twp. p. 384, 7 males 16 and older 2
males under 16, 4 females.
a list describing his property was not found.

On 27 Nov 1760, Elias Moyer and wife Barbara grant a release to son Peter
Meyer, in consideration of 136 pounds, for 100 acres in Earl Township,
Lancaster Co, adjoining land of Jacob Brotherly, Abraham Derr, John Moyer, and
Martin Brown. It was part of two Patents: one dated 7 Oct 1749 to
Martin Martin, granted to Emanuel Harmon, who granted it to Elias Meyer 28 Dec
1752 and the second for 136 acres dated 16 Nov 1744 to Elias Meyer. The
release was recorded 24 Sep 1766 in Book H #355 at approximately the same time
a release for a like amount of land is recorded from Elias Senr to
Peter's brother, Elias Junr. Peter's land is an adjoining parcel cited in
Elias's Senr's release to Elias Junr.

In 1769 Tax Lists, Peter lives in Earl Township, and owns 100 acres of land,
40 of which is cultivated, and livestock including 2 horses, 2 cattle and 7
sheep. In the following year, 1770, he owns the same land, but only 30 is
"improved" and has less livestock: 2 horses, 1 cattle and 4 sheep. He is
listed next to John & Elias Myers and is probably their immediate neighbor,
particularly in view of the adjoining lands cited in the two releases above.

In 1779 tax lists, Earl Township, Peter owns the same 100 acres, 2 horses, 2
cattle; the total value of his assets was £800. He is listed immediately after
Elias Meyer and John Meyer "at y- Creek."

In 1783 tax lists, Peter is still in Earl Township with 100 acres of land, 1
horse, 2 cattle, 4 sheep, 1 dwelling house and 1 barn; valuation of the total
was £480. There are 10 inhabitants in his household. By this time he had 10
children, all living, which should show a household of 12 inhabitants, so
apparently two of the older children are living elsewhere. Peter was listed
immediately after Elias Meyer, Christian Meyer, John Meyer, John Meyer Senr,
Christian Meyer and John Meyer.

On Jun 19 1786, by a deed apparently never recorded, Peter bought land in
Codorus Twp, York County, from Caspar Reinecker and wife Anna Maria. This land
was owned by John Myer in 1768, but his survey was not recorded until early
1800's when the land was sold by Frederick & Mathias Myers. The sequence of
title is John Meyer to Caspar Reinecker to Peter Meyer by deed of Jun 19 1786,
to Mathias and Frederick by Peter's Will. So, did Peter have a relation to

Peter first appears in Codorus Twp, York County Tax Lists in 1786, paying a
tax of £3.6.10. On the 1789 Codorus Twp list, Peter owns 400 acres land, 3
horses, 3 cattle, and a sawmill; valued at a total of £361 and a tax of £3.0.1

In 1790 Census "Petter Meyer" appears in Codorus Twp, York Co. His household
included 7 males over age 16 [Peter, Conrad, Henry, Mathias, Frederick,
David, & one unknown], 2 males under 16 [Peter, Adam], 4 females [Elizabeth
his wife, Regina, Christina, Elizabeth his daughter] (page270). Also in
Codorus Twp was George Meyer, 1 male over 16, 1 slave.

By 1792 tax assessment, Peter has sold some land, now owning 380 acres and
still the sawmill. In 1793 he has even less land, 300 acres, a sawmill and a
waterworks. It is apparent he sold 85 acres to his son Mathias, who first
appears in the tax list this year with this land, but no livestock. Conrad
Meyer also appears in Codorus Twp this year, but owns no land; Peter's will
implies Conrad was living on Peter's land.

In the 1795 tax lists of Codorus and Manheim Twp, Peter's lands appear to be
divided among his sons, Mathias, who owns 180 acres in Manheim Twp, and
Frederick who owns 190 acres in Cod
