"God Has Been Good To Me" by Grace Wolfe

The month of June is behind us now;
And with it my last birthday;
Which means that for lo these sixty years
I've been journeying on life's way.
And the thing that is most outstanding
As the pathway behind me I see
Is the amazing way
In which day by day
God has been:good to me.
He gave me a wonderful mother
And allowed her with me to stay -
Not as long as I fain would have had her,
But by my side day after day.
She was such a great inspiration
With faith undaunted and free;
Her abounding love,
Hope and courage prove
God has been good to me.

He gave to me three splendid brothers
And a sister, sweet, and true;
Not one has ever made me ashamed
By the things he assayed to do.
And so I have alway been thankful
For my sister and brothers three;
I see in the four,
His blessings sure:
God has been good to me.

My "Papa" was not like most other men,
For the men around me I see
Are selfish, grasping and hard to please,
But my Papa - content was he
with the lot God saw fit to give him,
Though lowly and hard, I'll agree.
My heritage rich:
How he filled his niche.
God has been good to me.

The friendships He's given along life's way,
Have been many and very worthwhile;
They have given me joy without alloy,
Ihey have dotted mv life's every mile.
Indiana, good old Ohio,
Sunny Florida, Texas most free,
Great treasures in friends -
Good gifts without end
God has been good to me.

And now thinking over the years gone by,
With some sorrows, some joys most keen,
With ambitions and 1oves and labors,
Such as all of us surely have seen;
Mine has not been a life so unusual,
None would wish it his own lot to be,
But over and thru it-
There's no guessing to it -
God has been good to me.
