Notes for William Barker

Second son of John Barker alias Coverall of Colehurst and Joyce Burton [1]

The pedigree of the Barker family, [2] gives the following descent of the family down to the marriage of Margaret to Francis Doughty:

Randulfe de Couerall, A(nn)o 12 E(dward) 2 = Margarett, da. to Petter Pigott of Willaston in com. Salop.
Their son William Barker alias Couerall de Couerall = Margarett, dau. and heire to .... Goulston of goulston. Their son John Barker alias Couerall of Coulshurst = .... . Their son William Barker of Coulshurst in com. Salop'. = Joanne (or) Jane, da. to Wm. Horne of Childes Arcoll [Little Ercall] in com. Salop. Their son William Barker of Hopton Castle = Mary sister and heire to William Titteley of titteley in com. Salop. Their son Thomas Barker of London, doctor of phisike, 2 sonne, ob. A(nn)o 1617, = Anne da. to Tho. Lloyd of Munmuthshr. Their daugther Margarett, wiffe to Frauncis Doughty.

The year 1319 associated with Randulfe de Couerall and Margaret Pigott suggests that there are some missing generations in the above pedigree.

A.L. Barker supplies some missing generations in his book The Barkers of Aston. He notes that William le Barker obtained property at Hallon in the manor of Worfield in 1327 and that his grandson William Barker died in 1412 leaving a wife Margaret or Marjorie. A.L. Barker assumes this Margaret is the Margaret heir of Goulston remembered in the 1623 visitation. He further assumes that William le Barker was a son of Randulph of Coverall and Margaret Pigott.

A.L. Barker also supplies two additional generations between John Barker alias Couerall of Coulhurst (wife not named in the visitation) and William Barker = Margaret Goulston. He further identifies the wife of this John as Joyce Burton dau. of Edward Burton of Longnor, Groom of the Stole.
