1658 "Tithes. There are two entries showing that the Court of Quarter Sessions was resorted to for the recovery of tithes: On 20th April, 1658, in the time of the Commonwealth, on complaint by 'John Kirk, Viccar of the parish of Eaton, that one Robt Murfin detaynes from him severall small tythes and dues unto him for diverse yeares last past amounting to ye sum of 16/10,' an order was made for payment of the same." [1] "At the Court of Quarter Session in April 1658 the vicar of Eaton, John Kirk, complained that Robert Murfin, probably a local resident, was withholding several small tithes and dues amounting to 26s 10d. The Court ordered Robert to pay his dues." [2]

1660 "Nottinghamshire. In this Year also, Roger Storrs, William Thorp of Gerton, and Robert Morfin [Murfin] of Worksop, were Prisoners for refusing to pay Tithes." [3] [4]

1660 "Robert Morfin [Murfin] of Workson [sic] was a Prisoner on Account of Tithes in the 3d Month 1660, having then been there forty Weeks." [5]

1660-1688 During the reigns of Charles II and James II, Robert Murfin was listed for "absence from church for one month" at Westhorpe, Nottinghamshire, England. [6]

1668 Robert Murfine was named as a Friend [Quaker] at the Sand meeting in Nottinghamshire, England "appoynted for the service of truth in the monthly and quarterly meetings". [7]

1669 Robert Murfine, of Worksop, Nottingham, England, died on June 2. Burialls. Sand Meeting. Robert Murfine of Worksop deceased the second day of the 4th month 1669 & was buried in the burying place of the people of god at Tickhill. [8] [9] [10]

Robert Murfin, perhaps a son of Robert Murfin was charged with offenses to the church:

1663 Robert Murfin, laborer, and others were charged with being excommunicate at Worksop, Retford Deanery on October 16, 1663. [11]

1668 Robert Murfin, laborer, and others were charged with not attending church and other offenses at Worksop. Dated about Easter. [12]

1668 Robert Murfin, laborer, and others were charged with being a Quaker and excommunicate at Worksop, Retford Deanery on October 16, 1668. [13]

1675 Robert Murfin and Anne Murfin his wife, Quakers; James Farrond [Pharo?] and Anne his wife, and John Murfin, and Wm Kirk[-] and his wife, Quakers were charged by the churchwardens at Worksop. [14]

1677 Several of Robert Murfin's children sailed for America, as recorded in the journals of grand daughter, Mary Smith: "And in the year 1677, Robert Murfin son of Robert Murfin of the town of Eaton in Nottinghamshire in old England, bought a share of a Propriety of land to be taken up in West Jersey in America. And in 1678 he and his wife, two children and two sisters Ann Farro, her husband and son, and Katherine Murfin with several others ... took their passages in a good ship called the Shield, Daniel Gooses, master for the voyage. They sailed from a sea-port town called Hull, and in the tenth month they arrived at the island now called Burlington. They had two children born and two passengers died on their voyage." [15] [16]

1641 Ro[bert] Murfin [Murfyn] appeared in the 1641/42 Nottinghamshire Protestation Returns in Eaton Parish (all males over 18 were required to pledge loyalty to KingCharles I). 1677 Elizabeth Murfin and Wm Clayton were married on November 12, at Worksop parish, Nottingham, England. [21]

1719 Ann Murfin, widow, was buried on September 16, at Worksop parish, Nottingham, England. [22]

"Robert Murfin, or Myrfin, was of an old North-of-England family, the son of ; Robert Myrfin, of Eaton, Notts. I extract, from an old record, the following bit of antique genealogy, to show the singular changes of spelling, in the same family, of this name Myrfin, which may even be identical with Merrefield! "Mirfin or Murfin was anciently Mirfield ; the various ancient spellings of the name, the records of Mirfin, of Thurcroft, show as follows: "Hugh Mirfield, of Mirfield, married heiress of William de Thurcroft, temp. Edward I. In the same family, Esmeus Vesey de Knapton marries, very early, Matilda, or Maud, daughter of William Myrfin, or Mirfin, alias Myrfold, Knight. Ralph Hatfield, of Laughton en le Merthing, marries Margaret, daughter of Robert Merfield, of Thurcroft. Thomas Levett, of Melton, marries, temp. Eliz., the daughter of Myrfin, of Thurcroft" [23]

1548 An account of certificates, chantries, guilds, hospitals, etc, Westryding, county of York, 1548, reported "Robert Myrfyn, incombent, lxvi yeres of age, a sickly man, hath none other lyving than the proffitts of the said chauntrie." for the chauntry of Saynt Katherine in the parish church of Doncaster.
