Eugene Ward Matlock, 74, of North Charleston, a retired US Navy Veteran, died Friday at a North Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday at the Macedonia Christian Church. Burial, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel, will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Matlock was born October 6, 1930 in Sharon, Tennessee; a son of Isaac T. Matlock and Wyola Ward Matlock. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion. He was a graduate of the University of San Francisco. He was a retired Mare Island Shipyard employee and a retired teacher with Vallejo Adult School. Surviving are his wife, Alfreida Gaskins Matlock of North Charleston; son, George L. Matlock of Pleasanton, CA; two daughters, Mary Jane Miles of Chula Vista, CA and Belinda S. Small of Eureka, CA; brother, Vernon Matlock of Martin, TN; sister, Shirlee R. Provencher of Montgomery, AL; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Macedonia Christian Church from 2 o'clock until the hour of service on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Alfreida Gaskins Matlock, 76 [sic], of North Charleston, a retired civil service employee died Friday at her residence. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Monday at Macedonia Christian Church. Burial, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel, will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Matlock was born March 27, 1935 in Berkeley County; a daughter of Larry L. Gaskins and Bessie Wyndham Gaskins. She was the widow of Eugene W. Matlock. Surviving are five sisters, Lila G. Bobo of Monks Corner, Belma G. Price of Macedonia, Jeanette G. Ramirez of Chico, CA, JoAnn G. Gist of Keota, OK, Sylvia G. Allen of Macedonia; two brothers, LeGrande Gaskins and Alton Gaskins both of Macedonia. Friends may call at Macedonia Christian Church from 2 o'clock until the hour of service on Monday.
