Notes for Daniel Engel

Daniel Engel was a bishop in the "River Brethren" movement. [1]:

A controversy arose about whether to excommunicate John Hess. "The Hess controversy also created a serious breach among Dauphin County's Bishop Daniel Engel and Franklin County's Bishop Christian Lesher (both of whom advocated excommunication for Hess) and Franklin County's Bishop Hoover (who interpreted Leviticus 18 as … ) … The Franklin County River Brethren demoted Christian Lesher from his position as ishop, rejecting the ruling made at Dabniel Engel's council for excommunication, and restored John Hess to the brotherhood."

1881 Elder Daniel Engle died on February 2 and was buried at Hummelstown Cemetery, Hummelstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Elder Daniel Engle was born on May 28, 1788. [2]
