Research Notes:

We are researching Thomas Page [1] and his wife Alice Scott. These are research notes for possible relatives and ancestors of Thomas Page. Following some other researchers, we suspect that our Thomas Page might be a grandson of John Page of Doctor's Creek, perhaps through son William Page or Edward Page. We seek further evidence to clarify these potential relationships.

1697 Petition of the inhabitants of East Jersey, asking to be taken under the government of the King, should the Proprietors not appoint a suitable person as Governor [From P.R.O. B.T. Proprieties, Vol. 6, No. G.23] Petitioners include (ca 1697): Jn Page Senior and Jn Page Junior, among many others, including Aron Robins.

1702 John Page Jr and Elizabeth Page witnessed the second will of Henry DeWilde, late of Lambeth, in the county of Surrey, Polter, now of Doctor's Creek, [Monmouth County] West Jersey. Dated March 31. Monmouth County Will 1-55. [3]

1705 John Page, of Doctor's Creek, granted land to son John Page with payments to minor children William, Thomas, Sarah, and Edward. [4]

Dec 6 (other nearby deeds are dated 1702-1707), John Page, of Doctor's Creek, in Freehold, Monmouth Co., East NJ, yeoman, for the fatherly love & affections he bears unto John Page of Doctor's Creek afsd., his oldest son, and for several sums of money to be paid by him to four children being William, Thomas, Sarah, and Edward, that is to say to pay the sum of £20 to each of them each within 4 years ensuing from the date hereof. AND, the £20 apiece to each of my afsd. four children when they attain the age of 21 years & he paid his father as above, then is released unto him a tr. of land in Monmouth Co., on the s. side of the brook called Doctor's Creek, being 300 a., as bounded in a Patent, dated 23 July 1697 from the Proprieters unto Anthony Woodward, then of Monmouth Co.. and also all that dwelling house & all other buildings, etc. and wch. John Page, the father, bot. of John Harrison, by the name of John Harrison, late of Queens Co., Island of Nassau, on Long Island, NY, and now late of Monmouth Co., Gent., and wch. land & premises in now in the tenure & occupation of the sd. 1728 Margaret, daughter of John and Elizabeth Page, married Samuel Robbins, son of Aaron Robbins, of Allentown. [5]

The relationship, if any, of this Page family of New Jersey, to John Page of Sudbury, England is unknown to us [6].
The relationship, if any, of this Page family of Monmouth County, New Jersey, to the Page family of Rockingham, New Hampshire, is unknown to us.
The relationship, if any, to the family of Matthew Page, of Virginia, is unknown to us. [7]
The relationship, if any, of this Page family of Monmouth County, New Jersey, to Joseph Page [8], who married Ann Robins in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and who died in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, is unknown to us. Perhaps Joseph was a son of John Page of Cape May County.

1728 John Page, of Welenborow, Burlington County, yeoman, dated his will on Jan. 14.

Administration on estate granted unto John Green, of Burlington County. John Doe and Richard Roe, yeomen, fellow bondsmen. [9]

1730 Account. Payments to Susannah Borden, Mary Busby, Jacob Burcham, John Watson, William Rogers. Names of those who purchased at vendue were Jno. Fenimore, Robert Woodcock, Jno. Ward, Eliz. Stocks, Judjah Adams, Rich'd Burding, John Green, Thos. Buzbey. Dated June 19. [11]

1729 John Page witnessed the will of William Wood, Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County. [12]

1737 Mary Hopkins, daughter of Edward Hopkins (deceased), married Isaac Ivins Jr, son of Isaac Ivins of Mansfield Twp, Burlington County, on the 23rd day, 9th month. Several Page family members were witnesses. [13]

1739 John Page Sr lived on a plantation in Chesterfield Twp, mentioned in the will of Thomas Newbold, Mansfield Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. [14]

1740 John Page witnessed the will of Mary Wood, Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County. [15]

1752 The will of Thomas Taylor, of Chesterfield, listed debts due to several people, including John Page. [16]

1754 The will of John Page, dated June 26 and proved on September 6 in Chesterfield, New Jersey, mentioned wife Sophia and sons Asa and Henry, both under age. [typewritten paper prepared by Robert E Page, not seen]

1705 John Page was an appraiser for the estate of John Crawford, of Cape May Co. [17]

1714 John Page was named an executor (he refused executorship) for the will of Timothy Bandreth, of Cape May Co. [18]

1715 John Page witnessed the will of William Mason, of Cape May Co. [19]

1715 John Page was named as trustee for the will of John Townsend, of Cape May Co. [20]

1719 The will of Charles Robinson, of Cape May Co., mentioned payments due to several people, including John Page. [21]

1729 The will of John Page, of Cape May Co, named wife Elizabeth and children Joseph, James, John, Hannah, Mary, Lydia, Elizabeth, and Hulda. [22]

1751 The will of Ellis Hughes, of Cape May Co., mentioned the Home farm, bought of John Page and lying near New England in the Lower precinct of said Co. [23]

John Page, of Salem County:

1670 Anthony Page was among "The Names of such who are entered as township men" at Newasink, Narumsunk, Pootapeck, Monmouth County, New Jersey. [24]

1688 The will of Henry Stubbings of Allawayes Cr., Salem Co., named Anthony Page as executor. [25]

1691 The will of Anthony Page, of Allawayes Cr., Salem Co., named widow Mary Page. [26]

1712 The will of Anthony Page of Cohansey, Salem Co., named mother Mary Shepard, brothers John Page and Samuel Shepard. The mother and brother John were named executors. [27]

1714 The will of Mary Sheperd, of Salem Co, widow, left her estate to sons John Page (executor) and Samuel Sheperd. [28]

1714 The will of John Page, of Stow, Salem Co., named wife Patience, daughter Mary under age, mother Mary Shepherd dead, wife's sons William and Samuel, and cousin Samuel Stebens. [29]

1718 The will of Thomas Abbot, of Cohansey, Salem Co., named executors: brother George Abbot, brother Dickason Sheperd and Job Shepherd. A debt was due by Job Sheperd. [30]

1675 Tax Record, Huntington, Long Island, NY: John Page - 2 cows, 2 yearlings, 9 acres of land and meadow. [32]

1683 Tax Record, Huntington, Long Island, NY: "John Page - 40£ 0s 0p". [33]

1685 Assessment of Property, Huntington, Long Island, NY: "John Page, 19L, 17s, 10d" [34]

Notes for John Page of Pennsylvania (perhaps more than one family and generation):

1707 John Page witnessed the sale of land by James Wasse, doctor of London, to William Biles, merchant of Bucks County, Pennsylvania for half a pound. Relationship unknown. [35]

1735 John Page warranted 1500 acres in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and received a patent on 11 September 1735. Dated September 19. [36] [37] [38]

1721 Thomas Page was on the Conestoga Twp, Lancaster County tax list of English assessments, value 6 pounds. [39]

1731 John Page warranted 10,000 acres in Lebanon, Berks, Bucks and Lancaster Counties. Dated October 19. [40] Three patents resulted to John Page. Two of these are shown separately in the next two notes. [41] [42] [43] [44] [45] [46]

1731 John Page warranted tracts of 2112 acres and 5165 acres in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on October 19, and received patents on September 17, 1735. [47] [48]

1739 John Page of Austin Fryers, London, sold land in Lancaster County to Erasmus Buggameir. John Page had patented the land on September 17, 1735 from the Penn proprieters and was granted 5165 acres named the Plumpton Manor. John Page was granted the right to constitute a court baron in the manor. Dated December 5. [49] [50] [51] [52] [53] [54]

1739 John Page of London, acting through attorneys William Allen of Philadelphia, William Webb of Chester Co, and Samuel Powell Jr of Philadelphia (this might refer to the original patent); sold Plumpton Manor on Tulpehocken creek to Christian Ruffy. [55]

1741 John Page dated his will on July 18 and gave all his lands in Pennsylvania to Evan Patterson. After John Page died, Evan Patterson appointed attorneys William Allen and William Webb to sell the Manor of White Church (the 2112 acre patent of 1731). [56]

1743 John Page granted 55 acres of Plum Manor to John Dieter. [57]

1745 John Page's attorneys granted 213 acres near Tulpehocken creek to Adam Brant. Dated May 23. [58]

1745 John Page was taxed in Conestoga Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania [59]
