1814-15 A pension record for Banister Cochrann named widow Serene Cochrann and first wife Sarah Collins. Banister enlisted on November 12, 1814 and was discharged on March 8, 1815. He was a private in Captain Jesse Thomas' Company of the Georgia Militia. His bounty land was listed. Banister and Serene were married on January 4, 1846, in Putnam County, Georgia. Banister died on November 10, 1861, in Morgan County, Georgia. Widow [Serene] died on January 31, 1899. [1]

1817 Bannister Cochran and Sarah Collier were married on December 25 in Morgan County, Georgia. [2]

1820 Banister Cockrum lived in Capt McClendons District, Morgan County, Georgia in a household with males: 1 (16 thru 25); and females: 2 (under 10) and 1 (16 thru 25). [3]

1830 Banester Cockram lived in District 286, Morgan County, Georgia in a household with free white males: 2 (under 5), 3 (5 thru 9), 2 (10 thru 14), and 1 (40 thru 49); and free white females: 1 (40 thru 49); and 1 slaves. [4]

1840 Banister Cockram lived in District 285, Morgan County, Georgia in a household with free white males: 2 (under 5), 3 (5 thru 9), 3 (10 thru 14), 4 (15 thru 19), and 1 (40 thru 49); and free white females: 1 (under 5) and 1 (30 thru 39); and 1 slaves. [5]

1846 Barnster Cochram and Serene Voss were married on January 4 in Putnam County, Georgia. [6]

1847 Banister Cockram was appointed administrator for the estate of Pheraby Vass in Morgan County, Georgia. James Cockram and others were named as appraisers. [7] He made a return on December 28. [8] He petitioned to sell negroes from the estate in March term 1848. [9] Banister advertized the sale by May term 1848. [10] He made a return in June, 1848. [11]

1850 Banister Cochran (age 65) and Sarah (age 43) lived in Morgan County, Georgia with David Cochran (age 21), George Cochran (age 16), Clark? Cochran (age 11), Caroline Cochran (age 15), Joseph Cochran (age 24), Mathew B Cochran (age 21), James Cochran (age 31) tenant. [12]

1860 Banister Cochran (age 78, born in North Carolina) lived in Shepherds, Morgan County, Georgia, in a household with Lavenia Cochran (age 46), David Cochran (age 32), George Cochran (age 26), Mark Cochran (age 22), Walter Cochran (age 14), Thomas Cochran (age 7), and Elizabeth Cochran (age 6). Banister Cochran's occupation was farmer. [13]

1861 Banister Cockrim dated his will on November 12, 1861 in Morgan County, Georgia. He bequeathed a negro woman named Samantha (age 21) and her children William and Lewis (ages 9 months and 3 years) to his wife Serene W Cockrim. Sons George, John, Mark A Cooper, Walter Branham, and daughter Ann Caroline Cram all inherited horses. Negroes Dick, Wash, and Isham were to be sold. Josias Bosnell and Irby Scott were named as executors. The will was affirmed on January 13, 1862. [14]

1898 Sarina Cochran, of Morgan County, Georgia, dated her will on April 8, 1898. She named grand children John H Cochran and wife Nancy L Cochran and their child. She mentioned her pension from the United States government. John H Cochran was named as executor. The will was affirmed on February 22, 1899. [15]

Research Notes:

Several researchers name Thomas G Cochran as a son of Banister Cochran. We seek evidence for this potential relationship. Thomas G Cochran may have been named a guardian of the orphans of Thomas Cochran.

1840 Thos Cochran lived in District 276, Morgan County, Georgia in a household with free white males: 1 (20 thru 29); and 8 slaves. [16]

1842 Letters of guardianship were issued to Thomas Cockran as guardian of Eugenia M. Cockran and Marcellus T. Cockran, orphans of Thomas Cockran on December 5 in Morgan County, Georgia. [17] [18] An account of expenses was recorded. [19]

1843 Thomas G. Cockran, trustee of of the minor children of Thomas G. Cochran, petitioned to hire a negro on January 2. [20] [21]

1844 Thomas G Cochran made a return on February 7. [22]

1847 Thomas G Cochran made a return on August 2. [23] April, 1848. [24] February, 1849. [25] February, 1850. [26] Thomas made a petition in the November term 1850 to sell a Negro man named Duke, age 50, from the estate to make a division. [27]

1844 Nathan Massey was appointed guardian of Joseph H. Ware (minor) on June 4. Thomas G. Cochran and John Johnston provided securities. [28]

1845 Nathan Massey guardian of Joseph H. Ware made a return on March 12. [29] Another return in December. [30] January, 1847. [31] January, 1848. [32] January, 1849. [33] December, 1849. [34] January, 1851. [35]

1850 Thomas G Cockram (age 43, born in Georgia) lived in District 62, Morgan County, Georgia with Ann E (age 32), William A (age 6), Sarah L (age 4), Thomas G (age 2), and Leonidus (age 2 months). Thomas G Cockram was a tenant. [36]

1851 Thomas G. Cochran died on January 23 and was buried at Cochran Family Cemetery, Greene County, Georgia. Thomas G. Cochran was born on February 28, 1807. [37] [38]

1851 Thomas J. Allen was appointed guardian for Marcellus F Cochran, orphan of Thomas G. Cochran on November 23 in Pike County, Georgia. [39]

1851 Letters of administration were issued in the July term to Ann Cochran, widow of Thomas G. Cochran. The clerk published a notice in the Madison Family Visitor, Madison, Morgan County, Georgia. [40] Return in August, 1851. [41]
