Research Notes:

Sybilla, wife of Mathew Clayton, was named as Sybilla Buckworth in a 1694 deed and may have been a daughter of Bryon Buckworth. We are investigating the possibility that Bryon Buckworth (1640-1695) married Elizabeth with daughter Sybilla Buckworth. Died 1695 Middlesex County, New Jersey.

1681 Richmond County Records of Staten Island [1] report: "Briont Bukoth Aged 30 vear or ther abouts testifieth that he kiled sow Marked with A Crop on the Right ear and A slitt in the Lef ear By Capten Bilupes order the winter be Befoor he sould two goones to obadiah Hulmes and danell stilwell Christepher Jacobes spok to me to me to tak nottes of the Mark for we may be Cald in queston hear After It was Aither obadhs or danell still stillw** and Afort I kiled thre in the two ka hous and As soon as thay war kiled Capt Bilop Cott of thair ears" [dates on adjacent entries are unclear, but the date might be 4 April 1681] [2]

1681 Richmond County Records Staten Island [3]:

Markey Desway examined Be foor the Court upon A Complant of Christepher Bilups Cenfeseth that he Marked fouer small piges ef A Strang sew two for him self and two for the Deike [Duke?] examened on the 3 day of October 1681.

The examination of witneses upon A Complaint ef Capt Christepher Bilop The Testemony of Briont Bukoth Aged 36 years or ther A Bouts testefieth that in the year 1680 he saw A sow of Capt. Bilups Mark with 4 feuer small piges furder this deponent saieth that In the fall insewing he saw Markes Desway Mark two shoets on for him self and two for the Duke of the seam Coler ef them of Capt Bilops and to the Best ef my knowleg By neaterll Markes the Must Be of the seam Sew And furder saieth net.

The Testem of Richard James Aged 22 years or ther A Routes testefieth that in the year 1681 he saw A sanded sow with Blak and whit spetes with four small piges en sande on whit on Blew on Blake and this deponient saw thes swin in Compeny withe the swin of Markes deswai and often A Bout his hous and furder saith that he herd the soon of frances Barber say that they war Capten Bilups he saith he Asked the sone ef Markes wth he Marke. Capten Bilups hoges he Ansered what will you Meake A theef of my father further saieh not. …

1681 "The Testemony of Briont Bukworth Aged 30 years or ther A Bouts Testefieth that neett Boroed of Peter Balew But A small Mater did mend it soe that we Cecht fich Anough for our oune yous But After when It was Returned the Roopes was Lost and the neett torn furder saith not." [4]

1682 Bryan Buckworth testified in Kings County, New York. [5]

1685 Samuel Moore of Woodbridge sold land to Thomas Knowles, late of Amboy Perth, stationer. The tract of 50 acres, part of his farm, was called Non Such, beginning at the first cove West of his mansion house, where Bryant Buckworth lives. Deed dated December 28. [6]

1689 Matthew Clayton was on the traverse jury of Burlington County. [7]

1695 Mathew Clayton was an inhabitant of Nottingham, Burlington County, New Jersey. [8]

1695 The will of Bryan Buckworth, dated November 2, mentions a wife and children, but not by name. Land at Appiquininne (?); 1 personal property. Wife executrix with John Craig and John Ireland as advisers. Witnesses: Jeremiah Birch, Peter Watson. Proved at Perth Amboy March 2, 1695-6. Letters testimonial with preceding will annexed, were issued to the widow Elizabeth Buckworth on April 6, 1696. [9]

Bryan Buckworth plaintiff against James Armour defendant: upon a writ of error both appearing & the court having fully heard both partyes do order that the plaintiff & defendant do make up the records fairly & allow the plaintiffs to retract the errors now assigned & to bring a new writ if he so thinks fit. 1708 John Watson had, seemingly two wives; the first, Sara Hidding [Hedden?]; the second, Elizabeth Bockworth, a widow.
Sep ye 22nd, Anno Dom 1708. Att ye Instant Request of Elizabeth Watson, widdow, ye this Court of Sessions would bind out her son, James Bockworth, an Apprentice, to some man, to Learen a trade, accordingly ye Court doth bind him out an Apprentice to James Bollen, as per Indentures bearing date herewith. 1727 Nathaniel Leonard, of Trenton, Hunterdon County, dated his will on September 11. Wife Anne. Children Samuel, Thomas, Nathaniel, Maurice, Mary, Anne, all under age; brother Thomas Leonard, cousin Christopher Leonard. Ferry and 20 acres, home farm, farm in Somerset County, now occupied by Jno. Runion, land bought of Henry Farnsworth, do. of Jno. Reading, farm now occupied by Jno. Reynolds, house and lot in Trenton, adjoining the Court house, bought of James Trent, part of Sybal's Plantation, bought of Thomas Wyatt with wife Syball and John Rogers with wife Martha, land in Amwell. Personal estate (two slaves, bonds due by Henry Vroom). Executors brother Thomas Leonard, James Leonard and Daniel Howell, of Trenton, blacksmith. Witnesses Edward Fitz Randolph, Jno. Stockton, James White, Isaac Reeder, James Geary, Joseph Harden. Proved December 9, 1727. [11]
