1834 Edward Livingston Wolf, child of Christian Wolf, was born on October 19, 1834, in Pennsylvania. Edward Livingston Wolf was baptized on June 14, 1835, at Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [1] [2] Notes from Edward's funeral program report:

Mr. Wolff was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, October 19, 1834. He was the youngest of fifteen children, his parents being Christian Wolff and Sarah Stoner Wolff. In 1863, he removed to Keithsburg, Illinois, and in 1855 was married to Mary Brisbane, who died in 1872 …

1841 Frances A Schambra, daughter of Daniel Schambra and Louisa Kuhl, was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. She and Edward Wolf were later married.

1850 Edward Wolfe (age 17, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Carlisle Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Charles Ogilby (age 44, merchant), Rebecca Ogilby (age 40), Joseph Ogilby (age 14), William Ogilby (age 7), Ann Ogilby (age 4), Mary Ogilby (age 1), John Noble (age 35), W Augustus Fughtig (age 19), Sarah Porter (age 15), Catharine Binder (age 36), and Mary Hacket (age 17). Edward Wolfe was a salesman. [3]

Edward Wolfe fathered two children with two mothers in Cumberland County, without marrying them, before he moved to Illinois. These notes are about his two marriages and his relationship with Mary A Bricker. 1850 Mary A Bricker (age 16, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Monroe Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Samuel Bricker (age 50), Barbara Bricker (age 45), Joseph A Bricker (age 22), Jacob Bricker (age 20), Ann M Bricker (age 14), Julian Bricker (age 12), Caroline Bricker (age 10), Samuel A Bricker (age 7), Laura H Bricker (age 3), and Catharine Renels (age 28). [4]

1853 Valeria Lestell, daughter of Mary A Bricker, was born on September 11. Edward Wolfe was the father. [See Notes for Edward Livingston Wolf and Anna M Brenizer]

1858 William Givler and Mary A Bricker were married on June 24 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

1860 W[illiam] Givler (age 23, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Upper Allen Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with M[ary] Givler (age 27), V[aleria] Givler (age 7), and L Givler (age 1). [5] [6]

1862 Lieut William W. A. S. Givler died on September 17 and was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Churchtown, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Lieut William W. A. S. Givler was born on March 21, 1837. William Givler was a spouse of Mary Bricker who adopted daughter Mary's daughter Valeria. [7] [8]

1870 Mary Givler (age 37, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Carlisle West Ward, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Valeria Givler (age 16). Mary Givler was a dress maker. [9] [10]

1929 Valeria Givler Gayhart died on July 16 and was buried at Topeka Cemetery, Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas. Valeria Givler Gayhart was born on September 11, 1853. [11] [12]

1853 Christian Wolff, of South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, dated his will on April 21. He made bequests to his wife Sarah and 14 children: Catherine, intermarried with Jenkin Lewis; Susan, intermarried with William Dean; Adam Wolf; Christian Wolf; John Wolf; Jacob Wolf; Rebecca (now a widow); Elizabeth, intermarried with John Youndt; George Wolf; Sarah intermarried with Henry Mellinger; Maria, intermarried with Lewis Sponsler; Ann Wolf; Ruben Wolf; Edward L Wolf; and to Christian and Mary, children of deceased son Henry. [13]

1855 Edward L Wolfe and Mary Jane Brisbin were married on November 12 in Mercer County, Illinois. [14]

1859 E. L. Wolf was the assessor for Keithsburg, Illinois. [15]

1860 Edward L Wolff (age 25, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Keithsburg Twp, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Mary J Wolff (age 25), Maude Wolff (age 4), and Eva B Wolff (age 8/12). Edward L Wolff's occupation was clerk. [16] [17] [18]

1863 Edward L Wolf, age 27, married, born in Pennsylvania, registered for the Civil War draft in Ohio Grove, Mercer County, Illinois. [19]

1870 Edward L Wolf (age 37, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Keithsburg, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Mary J Wolf (age 36), Eva B Wolf (age 10), Rosa M Wolf (age 6), and Stella Wolf (age 1). Edward L Wolf's occupation was dealer in lumber. [20]

1872 Mary J. Wolff, wife of E. L. Wolff, died on May 4, 1872, at age 38y 10m 29d, and was buried at Keithsburg Greenmound Cemetery Keithsburg, Mercer County, Illinois. [21] [22]

1872 Child Erroll Wolff died on July 21, 1872 and was buried at Keithsburg Greenmound Cemetery Keithsburg, Mercer County, Illinois. [23] [24]

1873 Edward L Wolff and Frances A Schambra were married on April 9, 1873 in Ohio County, West Virginia. [25] [26] [27]

1875 Daughter Stella F. Wolff died on January 16, 1875 and was buried at Keithsburg Greenmound Cemetery Keithsburg, Mercer County, Illinois. [28] [29]

1880 Edward L. Wolff (age 45, born in Pennsylvania, married) lived in Mercer Twp, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Fanie A. Wolff (age 38), Eva B. Wolff (age 20), Rose May Wolff (age 16), Bessie L. Wolff (age 4), Opal S. Wolff (age 3), and Wolff (age 2/12). Edward L. Wolff's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Edward L. Wolff's occupation was dealer in grain & lumber. [30] [31]

1887 Daughter Rosa M. Wolff died on August 5, 1887 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. [32] [33]

1892 Edward Wolff was nominated to run in the election for the Illinois state senate. He lost. [34] [35]

Edward Wolff, of Mercer county, has been nominated for the senate by the democrats. He can make a German oration, and as Senator Berry's record on the Edwards law is also displeasing to the Germans, everything seems to be coming the way of the democrats in the twenty-fourth district.


1892 E. L. Wolff of Mercer County was the Democratic nominee for the Illinois state senate.

1895 A newspaper reported that "E. L. Wolff and Mrs. Maria Sponsler [Edward's sister] went to Keithsburg Wednesday evening to be present at the funeral of Mrs. Jacob Wolff [sister-in-law Mary A. (Edwards) Wolff], whose death occurred Tuesday night. The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday." [37]

1897 Daughter Eva B. Wolff McCrea died on January 10, 1897 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. [38] [39] An obituary for her husband reported that she was named Eva B Wolff.

1900 Edward L Wolfe (born in Pennsylvania in Oct 1834, married for 27 years) lived in Aledo Twp, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Frances A Wolfe (age 58), Bessie L Wolfe (age 24), Opal Wolfe (age 23), Nellie R Wolfe (age 22), and Bertha L Wolfe (age 17). Edward L Wolfe's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Edward L Wolfe's occupation was capitalist. [40] [41]

1910 E J Wolf (age 78, born in Pennsylvania, married for 41 years) lived in Aledo Twp Ward 2, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Frances Wolf (age 65) and daughter Opal Wolf (age 31). Frances had had 4 children, all living. E J Wolf's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. E J Wolf could read and write. Listed adjacent was the household of James W Wallace () and daughter Bertha L Wallace (age 28). Bertha's parents were born in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. [42] [43]

1914 Edward L Wolff died on January 11, 1914 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. The grave marker reports his birth on October 19, 1834 and his wife Frances A Wolff (March 28, 1841 - June 2, 1921)[44] [45]

1914 An obituary for Edward Wolff reported [46] [47]:

Edward Wolff is buried at Aledo. Resident of Mercer County for Half Century is Suddenly Called Home. Aledo, Ill., Jan. 14 - Funeral services for Edward Wolff, who died suddenly of heart failure at his home on College Avenue, were conducted at the First Presbyterian church at 2:30 this afternoon.

Mr. Wolff had been in his usual health and attended a meeting of the First Presbyterian church, of which he was a prominent member, Sunday afternoon. On coming home he spoke of the meeting and remarked that he had a very strange feeling and passed away in a few minutes.

Mr. Wolff was born in Pennsylvania in 1834 and came in 1853 when but a young man to Mercer county and made his home in Keithsburg, coming to Aledo about 40 years ago, when for several years he engaged in the grain and lumber business. He had been prominent in every work for the improvement and advancement of this city, and his going means a great loss to the church, the college and the entire community. He leaves his widow and four daughters, Miss Opal, at home: Mrs. R.L. Watson and Mrs. J.W. Wallace of Aledo, and Mrs. Morse of Philadelphia.

1914 John Reed McCrea (spouse of daughter Eva B Wolff) died on February 16, 1914 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. [49]

1914 Daughter Nell visited her sisters and her widowed mother Frances Wolff. [50] [51]:

Mrs. R.L. Watson went to Galesburg Thursday and met her sister, Mrs. H. C. Morse of Philadelphia, who came to visit her mother, Mrs. E.L. Wolff and other relatives.

1915 A newspaper announcement reported: "Mrs. H. C. Morse and baby Frances Louise, who have made an extended visit with Mrs. Morse's mother, Mrs E. L. Wolff and sisters, Mrs. J. W. Wallace and Mrs R L. Watson, left this week for their home in Oklahoma City, Okla." [52]

1919 The heirs of Edward L Wolff announced an estate sale on September 1, 1919, for a 230 acre farm near Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. [53]

1920 Frances A Wolff (age 78, born in Virginia, widowed) lived in Mercer, Mercer County, Illinois, in a household with Opal S Wolff (age 40). Frances A Wolff's parents were both born in Virginia. Frances A Wolff could read and write. [54] [55]

1921 Frances A Wolff died on June 2 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. Frances A Wolff was born on March 28, 1841. [56] [57]

1921 Frances A Wolff, widow, died on June 2 in Aledo Twp, Mercer County, Illinois. Frances A Wolff was buried on June 6, 1921, in Aledo County, Illinois. She was born on March 28, 1841, in Wheeling, Virginia. [58] [59]

1921 A newspaper announcement reported: "MRS. FRANCES ANN WOLFF. Aledo - Mrs. Frances Ann Wolff, widow of Edward L. Wolff, and for forty-eight years a resident of Aledo, died Thursday morning, June 2, 1921, at her home on South College avenue, in which she had lived forty-seven years and a half." [60]

1921 A newspaper announcement reported: "Aledo, June 4 - Mrs. Frances Ana Wolff, aged 80 years, for 48 years a resident of Aledo, died at her home on South College avenue Thursday morning. Mrs. Wolff was born March 28, 1841, in Wheeling, W. Va. her maiden name being Frances Ann Scnambra, She married Edward L. Wolff, April 10. 1873, the couple making their home in Aledo. Mr. Wolff died on Jan. 11, 1914. She is survived by four children. Mrs. Bessie Watson of Aledo, Mrs. Nellie Morse of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Bertha Wallace, Aledo, and Miss Opal Wolff st home. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at the home. Rev. H. B. Allen of Marengo, Iowa, will preaeh the funeral sermon." [61]

1939 Opal S. Wolff, single, daughter of Edward L. Wolff and Frances Schrambrock (born in Wheeling, W. Virginia), died on June 18, 1939, at age 62, in Aledo, Mercer Co, Illinois. Opal S. Wolff was buried on June 21, 1939, in Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. Opal S. Wolff was born on March 3, 1877, in Aledo, Illinois. [62]

1939 Opal S. Wolff died on June 18, 1939 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. [63]

1953 Three of Edward Livingston Wolfe's daughters were killed in an automobile accident near Tampa Florida.
