Notes for Jane Orr

1768 Jane Orr wrote her will on November 18. [1]

In the Name of God Amen I Jane Orr of Chelsea near London Spinster do declare this to be my last will and Testament in manner following that is to say I give and bequeath to my dear sister Cottrell the Interest of Six Hundred pounds during her life but at her decease I leave Five Hundred of it to Charles Cottrell her eldest son of Conll. John Cottrell deceased the other hundred I leave and bequeath to my dear Charley Boy eldest son of the aforesaid Charles Cottrell Item I leave and bequeath to the aforesaid Charles Cottrell eldest son of Conll. John Cottrell deceased the whole and every part of the Legacy left me and my heirs by the last will of my dear Brother the Reverend Tomes Orr of the Kingdom of Ireland bearing date January 21 1744 of whatsoever kind it be to him and his Children for ever I also leave to him and his children whatsoever may be recovered of the Estate of my Brother Patrick Orr deceased of Jamaica. Item I leave and bequeath to Mrs Martha Finly otherwise McCowell wife of Mr William Finly now living in Rothsay in the Island of Bute in Scotland the sum of One Hundred pounds to her and her children but in case she dies without children I leave this said hundred pounds to her Brother Samuel McConell I also leave the aforesaid Martha Finly all my wearing apparell Laces and Linnen of whatever kind they be. Also my watch and chain the said hundred pounds to be payed in one year after my Death Item I leave and bequeath the sum of Fifty pounds to the aforesaid Samuel McConnell to be payed him in one year after my Death Item I leave and bequeath to Samuel Willson Watchmaker of the City of Dublin in the Kingdom of Ireland the Sum of Fifty pounds but in case of his Death and he leaves any children to be payed his Children in one year after my death but in case he is dead and leaves no children in one year after my decease then I desire the aforesaid Fifty pounds to be payed to the aforesaid Samuel McConnell Item I leave and bequeath the sum of Ten pounds to Samuel Mercer of Crosby Square London for a Ring in remembrance of the many obligations and marks of Friendship I received from him Item I leave Ten pounds to his Daugher Mrs. Grove for a Ring as an acknowledgement for the Friendship shared me by her Father Mr Mercer Item I leave to Mrs Fanny Cottrell wife to Charles Cottrell aforesaid my white quilt and Books and some small pictures I do hereby appoint Charles Cottrell heir to all to all other my Estates and Effects herein not before mentioned I also appoint the aforesaid Charles Cottrell together with Samuel Mercer of Crosby Square in the City of London Executors of this my last Will and Testament written with my own hand In Witness whereof I have sett my Name this day November 18th 1768 Jane Orr my executors when near time of payment to inquire if Mrs Martha Finly is living if dead or has left no children not to pay the Money nor send my wearing apparel but desire they may be sent to Dilley Willson daughter to Mrs Catherine Willson widow of the Kingdom of Ireland to inquire after the aforesaid Martha Finly of her Father Mr John McConnell of Londonderry. Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of us Novr 18th 1768 Fanny Cottrell Elizabeth Trevor Ann West.

1772 Jane Orr was buried on April 3 at St Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex, England. [2]

1772 The will of Jane Orr was proved on April 9. [3]

This Will was proved at London the Ninth day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and seventy two … by the oaths of the Reverend Charles Cottrell Clerk and Samuel Mercer the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted …
