Notes for John Jeremiah Cochran

Our active research focus is Nancy Cochran, wife of Isaiah Pickett [1]. Isaiah, son of Micajah Pickett, eloped with Nancy. Nancy's parents are not known. These are notes for descendants of John Jeremiah Cochran, who was likely related to Nancy Cochran based on DNA evidence. John Jeremiah Cochran married Rebecca Brown, daughter of Larkin Brown.

1850 Jno J Cockran (age 33, born in Georgia) lived in District 70, Putnam County, Georgia, in a household with Rebecca Cockran (age 23), Sarah C Cockran (age 7), Emily Cockran (age 4), and Louisa E Cockran (age 2). [2][3] [4] [5] [6]

c 1858 John Jeremiah Cochran died and was reported buried at Carmel Cemetery, Mansfield, Newton County, Georgia. No grave marker photo is shown at the memorial. [7] [8] John Jeremiah Cochran was a superintendant at a textile factory on the Alcovy River in a section of Newton County known as Newton Factory. John Jeremiah Cochran reportedly died in a fire at the factory around the time of J.R.'s birth.

Factory Shoals Park in Covington, Georgia is the remains of one of Georgia's earliest water-powered mill towns. It was known as Webberville in 1832 and as Newton Factory in 1846. It included five large textile mills, several smaller grist mills, a post office and a cemetery. [Emma Lou Pickett Grant (Mar 20, 1878 - Dec 17, 1902) is buried there. [9]]

1860 R C [Rebecca Caroline] Cochran (age 32, born in Georgia) lived in Newton Factory, Newton County, Georgia, in a household with Sarah C Cochran (age 15), Mary E Cochran (age 12), Louisa E Cochran (age 10), Susan E Cochran (age 8), John W L Cochran (age 6), and Jeremiah R Cochran (age 2). 1870 Daughter Ella Cochran and Isaac Parker were married on December 10, 1870, in Newton County, Georgia. [22]

1880 Rebecca Cockram (age 53, born in Georgia, widowed) lived in Stansells Twp, Newton County, Georgia, in a household with Emma Cockram (age 25), and Robert J. Cockram (age 21). Rebecca Cockram's parents were both born in South Carolina. [23] [24] [25]

1900 [Son Jeremiah] Robert Cochran (born in Georgia in May 1860, married for 10 years) lived in Reedy Springs Twp, Laurens County, Georgia, in a household with Bettie Cochran (age 37), Ruth Cochran (age 6), Robert Cochran (age 5), Joseph Cochran (age 2), and mother Rebecca Cochran (age 73). Rebecca was widowed and had been married for 45? years. Robert Cochran's parents were both born in Georgia. Robert Cochran's occupation was farmer. [26] [27]

1910 Jeremiah L Cochran (age 52, born in Georgia, married for 20 years) lived in Reedy Springs, Laurens County, Georgia, in a household with Martha E Cochran (age 37), Robert Cochran (age 14), Joseph Cochran (age 10), Willie Cochran (age 8), Emma Cochran (age 5), Ollie Cochran (age 0), and Rebecca Cochran (age 83). Rebecca had had 7 children, 3 living. Jeremiah L Cochran's parents were both born in Georgia. Jeremiah L Cochran could read and write. Jeremiah L Cochran's occupation was own income, own account. 1920 Jeremiah R Cochran (age 62, born in Georgia, married) lived in Blackshear Twp, Pierce County, Georgia, in a household with Elizabeth Cochran (age 46), Willie Cochran (age 18), Emma Cochran (age 15), Allie Cochran (age 10), and Rebecca Cochran (age 92). 1925 Jeremiah Robert Cochran, married, son of John Jerry Cochran and Beckey Cochran, spouse of Martha Thomas Cochran, died on February 27, 1925 at age 56y 8m 22d in Pierce County, Georgia. Jeremiah Robert Cochran was born on April 5, 1868, in Newton County, Georgia. [35] [36] [37]

1929 John Larkin Cochran, widowed, child of John Cochran and Rebecca Brown, spouse of Mary Cochran, died, at age 78 on December 20, 1929, in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. John Larkin Cochran was born on February 28, 1851, in Georgia. (Death certificate: 2931685). [38] [39] [40] [41]

1837 John J Cochran wrote his will on January 13 ?. The will was affirmed on May 1, 1837 in Columbia County, Georgia. The will named wife Mary, son William B Cochran and daughter Louise M. Beale, wife of William B Beale. [82]

1854 James D. Green, Thoma I W Newman, William B Cochran, & Edward W Jones posted bond for execution of the will of John J Cochran, late of Columbia County, Georgia, deceased. James D. Green was the administrator. Dated October 2, 1854. [83]

1854 Mary Cochran wrote her will. She directed that the will of her husband John J Cochran be executed. Her estate was to be divided into two shares. One share to son William B. Cochran. The other half to be divided among her grand children Emily Blanchard wife of James Blanchard, John H Beale, Mary L Beale, Erasmus B Beale, Oswell J Bealle, and Robert F. Beale. [84]
