Notes for Hoffman

These notes are for potential parents of Henry Hoffman, shown as a son of this unnamed Hoffman, perhaps of Schriesheim, Baden, Germany. Documents name Henrich and Yost Hoffman and some Trautman family members both in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and in Schriesheim, Baden, Germany. Perhaps the documents refer to the the same persons and families.

1738 Yost and Henry Hoffman may have immigrated to America on the same ship: Hendrick Hoofman, Johan Hend. Hoffman, and Joost Hooffman immigrated on the ship St. Andrew on October 27. [1] [2]

Adam Henrich Hoffman, Hieronimus Trautmann and Johannes Trautmann were all emigrants from Schriesheim. [3] [4] [5]

1743 51. Hieronimus Trautmann, of Schriesheim, [6]

1743 52. Johannes Trautmann, Reformed congegration of Schriesheim [7]

1750 109. Adam Henrich Hoffman, of Schriesheim (Kries Mannheim), who had already emigrated, was in 1751 retroactively manumitted (Protocol 6197, pp. 487, 525, 535). [8]

1743 49. Jacob Hoffman, shoemaker, of Zuzenhausen, was permitted to emigrate in 1743, along with Dietrich Müller, without payment of the usual taxes because of their poverty (Protocol 6189, pp. 484, 528, 591, 622). Possibly the Jacob Hoffman who arrived at Philadelphia on the Ship Rosannah, taking the oath of allegiance September 26, 1743 (List 100 A-C).

not listed [separate list, Catholic]

Hans Georg Trautman (hausfr) was named [separate list, Lutherans] [16]

Jost Hoffman lived in the same time era, nearby geographically, and interacted with some of the families with whom Henry Hoffman interacted. [17]

Jost and Henry Hoffman were sponsors for one another's children at Milbach Reformed Church (Millcreek Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania). [18] I found only one 1747 baptism, so far.

1747 John Jost, son of Henry Hoffman was baptized on November 4 with sponsor John Jost Hoffman. [19]

1751 John George Hoffman, son of Henry and Elizabeth Hoffman, was baptized on July 8 with sponsors John George and Anna Meisser. [20] [21]

1757 A daughter of Jost and Maria Catharine Hoffman was baptized on June 17 with sponsors Michel and Elizabeth Müller. [22]

1762 Anna Elizabeth Hoffman, daughter of Henry Hoffman, and John Henry Strack were married on August 6. [23] [24]

1796 The estate of Yost Hoffman was considered on January 19, by the Orphans Court of Dauphin County. Administrators George Hoffman and Adam Vieman were commanded to present an account. [25]

1796 George Hoffman and Adam Feeman presented their account of the estate of Yost Hoffman. The estate was distributed to the heirs, to wit: Michael Troutman in right of Susanna Hoffman; Michael Troutman son of Elizabeth Troutman late Elizabeth Hoffman who was married to John Troutman; Magdalena Troutman late Magdalena Hoffman married to Philip Troutman; Mary Cogley late Mary Hoffman married to Sebastian Cogley; George Hoffman; and Christian Hoffman. [26] Note; three Troutman brothers, sons of Johannes Troutman, married three Hoffman sisters, daughters of Yost Hoffman. All are buried in St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery, Host, Tulpehocken Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

We show Henry and Jost as brothers, with no direct evidence to prove common parents, in order to help us organize notes about the Hoffman family in the area of Millbach, Newmanstown, Mill Creek Twp, Lancaster/Lebanon/Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

See the bible record of Johannes Troutman (1713-1764). [27]

The relationship, if any, to the line of John Hoffman, who emigrated from Switzerland in about 1717 and settled near Newtown, Rapho Twp, is unknown. [28].
