Notes about the Delco-Remy company:

Frank and Perry Remy began their electrical company in Anderson in 1896. They developed a practical sparking device, called a magneto, for cars. Their high tension magneto was one of the best for that time and a feature of the 1905 Buick. In 1910 they had 15 men on their payroll and moved to 2415 Columbus Avenue.

As technology changes in the auto industry were phasing the magneto out in favor of battery ignition, the Remys decided to get out of the business and in 1911 they sold it to S. Fletcher (who re-organized the company) for $1 million.

"In 1916, Remy Electric again changed hands and became part of United Motors, along with Dayton Engineering Laboratories, an Ohio firm which had produced the first electric self-starter for automobiles. United Motors was bought by General Motors in 1918. After the end of World War I, General Motors considered closing Remy Electric and sent representatives to Anderson to investigate. Impressed by the city and its potential, they invested in the company.

In 1923, Remy Electric Company was the world's largest maker of automotive electrical equipment.

It was in 1927 when C.E. Wilson was manager of Remy Electric that the two companies were consolidated as Delco-Remy. During World War II Delco-Remy production tripled and 5 new plants were put into operation." [38]
