1759 The Kingwood meeting, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, found Henry Coate, perhaps this Henry or his father, to be out of unity. Meeting dated 13d 9m 1759. [1]
Joseph King Senior one of the Friends that was appointed at last Meeting to go to Henry Coate reports that he … went to him and inform'd him that if he did not appear at this meeting and condemn his excessive drinking, playing of cards in a taver almost a whole night at a time and using profane language, Friends would proceed to disown him from being received as a member on our religious society. To which he reply'd that he chose to be read out of Meeting (as he called it).
