Research Notes:

We have found three possible husbands for Mary Eichelberger, with overlapping lives. We seek clarification about Mary's family. Josiah Grill is shown speculatively as the spouse of Mary Eichelberger because his children were grand children of Joseph Eichleberger.

1850 Josiah Grill (age 4, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Elizabeth Grill (age 41). [1]

1860 J Grill (age 13, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with G Troutwine (age 68), E Troutwine (age 46), G Troutwine (age 4), R Troutwine (age 2), E Grill (age 17), S Grill (age 15), and J Harison (age 22). [2]

1864 Joseph Grill, son of Josiah Grill and Mary Eichleburger, was born on March 6, 1864, in Union City, Ohio. [3]

Josiah F. Grill was a Corporal in the 191st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry of the Union Army during the Civil War. [4]

Josiah F. Grill was a Private in the 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry (35th Volunteers) of the Union Army during the Civil War. [5]

1870 Joseph Eichelberger (age 50, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Ohio, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Caroline Eichelberger (age 44), Washington Eichelberger (age 21), Jane A Eichelberger (age 18), James B Eichelberger (age 16), Laura V Eichelberger (age 13), and Cora (age 1). Joseph Eichelberger's occupation was farm laborer. [6]

1875 Mary M. Eichelberger and Thomas Burke were married on July 26, 1875, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. (FHL film 000877918). [7]

1879 A pension record for Josiah F. Grill was dated December 10, 1879. [8] [9]

1880 I.F. Grill died on February 19 and was buried near Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Ohio. [10]

1880 Joseph Eichelberger (age 60) and Caroline Eichelberger (age 55) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. Daughter Cora A (age 11) lived with them. Also in the household were grandchildren Josiah F Grill (age 11), and Joseph H Grill (age 13). Next door was son James B Eichelberger. [11]

1883 Mary M. Burke and John Gard were married on April 12, 1883, in Darke County, Ohio. (FHL film 001030773). [13]

1883 Charles Carlile Gard, child of John Gard and Mary Eichelbeyer, was born on November 18, 1883, in Darke County, Ohio. [14]

1900 Josiah F Grill (born in Pennsylvania in Nov 1868, married) lived in Mississinawa Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Mary L Grill (age 26), Hazel E Grill (age 6), Ethel M Grill (age 4), Forest D Grill (age 1), and half brother Charles Gard (age 16). Josiah F Grill's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Josiah F Grill's occupation was farmer. [15]

1900 Mary N Gard (born in Pennsylvania in Jun 1847, divorced) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Cora A Gard (age 14), Nina C Gard (age 12), and William C Jennings (age 46). Mary N Gard's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [16]

1905 Mary M. Eichelberger Gard died on March 27, 1905 and was buried at Teegarden Congregational Christian Church Cemetery, Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio. [17]

1906 Nina C. Gard and Benjamin F. Cavender were married on January 21, 1906, in Covington Twp, Kenton County, Kentucky. (FHL film 000551107). [18]

1910 Nina Cavender (age 22, born in Iowa, married for 3 years), wife, lived in Dayton Ward 7, Montgomery County, Ohio, in a household with Benjamin Cavender (age 25), Harold Cavender (age 2), and Frank Negley (age 48). Nina Cavender's parents were both born in Iowa. Nina Cavender could read and write. [19]

1911 Charles Carlice Gard, son of John Gard and Mary Eckelberger, got a license in Indiana to marry Anna May Jennings. Dated January 11, 1911. Charles was born on November 18, 1883 in Darke County, Ohio. (FHL film 001655010). [20]
