No. CCA-DCc-ChAnt/A/167 (R 182 (Norris); Seal 21 (Sheppard)), Inspeximus, 20 May 1525, From Henry VIII, king of England, Of an enquiry in the keeping of Thomas Topesfeld, clerk, made at Ashford on 19 Nov 1496. Held before Henry Lundun, esq, royal escheator for Kent. Testimony was taken from John Sperte, Thomas Herte, William Pellond, Robert Trewman, Richard att Regg, Richard Skele, Richard Fyldeswell, Thomas Pette, Thomas Tailour, William Hachoon, William Sylver, Thomas Baker, Henry Scotte and John Harlakenden. Account of the lands of which Gervase Horne was seised when he died 13 Jul 1493. He held the 'manerium' or tenement of Horne in Appledore manor. Also lands in Appledore, Kenardington, Snargate, Woodchurch, Shadoxhurst, [Great] Chart, Brenzett, Snave, Ivychurch, Brookland, and the parish of St Martin's in the Romney Marsh [ie St Martin's New Romney]. Some lesser place-names given. Gives details of 2 conveyances to uses, one to members of wife's family. Some land was part of Kenardington manor which is held in chief from the king. Other land was held from the archbishop's manors of Aldington and 'Bromefeld' [?Broomfield, in Herne] the cathedral priory's manors of Appledore and Mersham, the manor of Orlestone belonging to William Scott, knight, and the manor of Court at Wick ('Wykys') [in Snave] belonging to St Augustine's Abbey. Details of dues and services for these. He married Jocosa, daughter of John Culpeper, knight, and had a son, William, his heir, now 14 years and above, and a daughter, Dorothy. Gives details of his will made on 12 Oct 1483. Sent patent. At head, decorated capitals and other ornamentation. Endorsed with contemporary description. Given at Westminster [Middlesex].
