1725 John Pickett Juner witnessed two deeds at court in Essex County, between Anthony North and William Daingerfield. Dated March 25. [1]

1725 Thomas Burnett sued John Pickett, Jr for slander. Dated in November. John Burnett and Thomas Burton Jr were found guilty after they "committed a breach of ye peace on the body of John Pickett, Jr". [2] [3] John Pickett, Jr may have reached age 21 at this time.

1732 John Pickett Jr and John Gooch were on the jury for a trespass action before the court. Dated December 14. [4]

1733 Micajah Pickett and John Pickett were each paid 300 pounds of tobacco for 10 days of testomony for Benjamin Rennolds (perhaps a brother-in-law to brother James Pickett) in Caroline County, Virginia. Dated April 11. [5]

1733 John Pickett was paid 210 pounds of tobacco for 9 days of testomony for Charles Duett Jr. Dated April 11. [6]

1733 Suit in chancery, John Pickett Jr against Robert Dudley. Dissolved. Dated April 11. [7]

1733 John Pickett Jr confessed judgement to Wm Daingerfield for 325 pounds of tobacco. Dated July 12. [8]

1733 John Pickett Jr was on the jury of the court in Carolline County, Virginia. Dated July 12. [9]

1733 Action of debt. Margaret Strother executrix of Wm Strother against Thomas Coleman and John Pickett Jr. Judgement granted to plaintiff for 1000 pounds of tobacco. Dated August 9. [10]

1733 Action of debt. John Taliaferro, Gentleman, late sheriff of this county against several people. Find for the defendant. John Pickett Jr was foreman of the jury of the court. Dated November 8. [11]

1734 Tthere were several court actions related to the estate of John May. Susannah Boughannan, Mary Pickett, Ruth Booth, Dunkin Boughannan, John Picket Jr, and Daniel Booth acknowledged their deed. John Pickett Jr appeared in court by virtue of a mittimus (summons) from Thomas Buckner Gent. Complaint of Susannah May against John Pickett Jr was dismissed. Susannah May, Thos Buckner Gent, Dunkin Bohannan and Henry Reins acknowledged their bond for the administration of the estate of John May. Dated January 10. [12] [13]

1734 Sarah a Negro girl belonging to John Pickett Jr was adjudged 12 years of age. Dated February 14. [14]

1734 Micajah Pickett and John Pickett Jr were paid for providing evidence in a case. Dated July 11. [15]

It is unclear to us which of the Orange County court records below refer to John Picket Sr or to John Picket Jr.

1736 A suit in Orange county John Pickett vs John Randall. Promissory note of John Randall to John Pickett, 28 November 1734 for 191 pounds of tobacco, payable on demand. Dismissed. [16]

1736 A suit in Orange county John Pickett vs. John Bryson. Obligation of Bryson to Pickett for 200 pounds tobacco to be paid 10 October. Account of Bryson with Pickett 14 Nov 1733 for brown lining, 3 pints rum, 1 fine felt hat at Benj. Rennolds. Dismissed. [17]

1736 John Pickett against John Easton, decided for Pickett. [18]

1736 A suit in Spottsylvania county [adjacent to Caroline Co] in November, John Pickett of Caroline County was a witness for Richard Parr vs James Nowlin. John was paid 400 pounds of tobacco for trouble and travel of 50 miles, each way.

1738 John Pickett vs. Bryson. Over 140 pounds tobacco. Decided for Pickett. [19]

1737 John Pickett Jr purchased, in Caroline County, Virginia, the headrights for 50 acre tracts, from immigrants to Virginia. [21]

1739 John Pickett Jr was appointed under sheriff of Caroline County and held that position for most of the rest of his life. [22]

1742 John Pickett gave evidence for Smith and was compensated for 46 miles of travel to court. [23]

1746 John Pickett against William Jackson. Dismissed, being agreed. [24]

1743 John Pickett Jr witnessed a deed of lease and release for land in South Farnham Parish. Dated May 16. [25]

1748 John Pickett was named twice, voting for two different candidates, on a Poll List for Essex County, perhaps as John Sr and John Jr Pickett . [26]

1755 William Jackson of Orange County sold to John Pickett, Junior of St. Margaret's Parish, Caroline County, 100 acres adjoining William Jackson. Dated March 27. [27]

1755 John Pickett Jun, living near Dower's Bridge, in Caroline County, posted a newspaper notice that he had found a gray mare. The owner could claim it. [28]

1755 John Pickett versus James Powell. Mary Powell and Phillip May were summoned to give evidence for Pickett and he was to pay them for same. Mary didn't come and forfeited 350 pounds of tobacco. Phillip came 50 miles from Caroline Co. Wm. Jackson was also a witness for Pickett. [29]

1759 Justices of Caroline County Virginia were to take depositions relevant to the case now pending in Salisbury Court between James Picket the younger, plaintiff, and Henry Downes, for detaining a negro woman named Lucy [Luce]. Particularly singles out John Picket the elder, perhaps this one, and Mace or Mose Picket of Caroline for deposition. James Picket Jr was also contesting Downes' possession of a boy named Daniel. 1778-79 John Pigot Sen was named on a list for the grand and petit juries for the Cheraws district, South Carolina [31] [32]

Research Notes:

1768/1808 John Pickett's death has been reported in two ways: 1768 in Caroline County, Virginia. [33] and between 22 Aug - Oct 1808 in Scott County, Kentucky. We have not researched this question.

1771 John Pickett of Caroline County sold 100 acres adjoining lands of Charles Neale, Walter Leonard, and Charles Pearcey, to Charles Pearcey. Dated November 12. [34]

1771 John Pickett, of Caroline County, sold to Charles Pearcey, 100 acres adjoining land of Henry Neale. Dated November 12. [35]

1775 John Pickett made a purchase at the estate sale of Henry Thredkill in Culpepper County, Virginia. [36]

1780 Two Commonwealth grants and patents were made to John Pickett and Mace Pickett (relationship not given), for 400 acres and 339 acres. Dated December 11. [37] [38]
