1900 A newspaper notice reported [1] "Joseph Desha Pickett dies at Oak Park, Ill. Native of Lexington and Chaplain of Orphan Brigade during Civil War."

1925 A newspaper notice reported [2]:

Mr. Montgomery B. Pickett, of Chicago, the son of the late Professor Joseph Desha Pickett, the distinguished chaplain of the Confederate army and educator of Kentucky, has written a book, "The Fourth Physician," which has already brought him into fame. It is a Christmas story but is already in its second edition before Christmas has come. The author was born in Lexington and his forbears are all Kentuckians, consequently this State and city will share in and feel pride in his success.
