The tract was 453 acres on both sides of the wagon road from Greenville court house to Ashville NC and on both sides of Wyers Cr waters of Chicheroa R of Saluca R. The land was bordered by James Picketts corner dead B O, joins John Spriggs, William Lynch, Jesse Tramwell, Burrell Russell, Micajah Pickett. A history of ownership was reported. [18]

1834 John B Pickett brought a petition to the equity court of Fairfield District, South Carolina stating that his brother Jeptha Pickett had sold land to William Ellison in 1827. Jeptha was not authorized to sell the land, perhaps only owning one third interest to the land. The children of Jeptha Pickett and his deceased wife Ann (why wasn't she named Nancy?) became involved in the deed somehow and John was named their guardian. It was not clear whether Jeptha had died or had lost custody of the children. The children were named Reuben, Elizabeth, Nancy married to Allen, Sarah, Catharine, Jeptha, and Kisanna. [26]

1836 Sarah Pickett, wife of John B Pickett, was named as a daughter in the will of Nancy Pickett Boulware. Grand children Nancy Pickett, Musco Pickett, Kesanna Feaster, were also named. [27] [28]

1850 John Pickett, planter (age 69), and Sarah (age 54) lived in Fairfield, South Carolina with children William (age 23), Martha (age 18), Mary (age 14), Amanda (age 13), and Knox (spelling unclear)(age 25). The adjacent listing was for Martha Boulware (age 50) and family. The slave schedules listed Jno Pickett of Fairfield, South Carolina with 62 slaves. [30] [31]

This is a typed transcription. Perhaps Jr in the typed version was a transcription error of Sr in the original. [32] [33] [34] [35] [36]

1850 Son John B Pickett Jr died in September, 1850. The will above is likely that of John B Pickett Sr.

1855 Sarah Pickett, executrix for the last will and testament of John B Pickett Senior, deceased, late of Fairfield District, sold land from the estate to Thomas Davis. Dated April 14. [37]

1860 Sarah Pickett (age 64), planter, was listed in the 1860 census for Fairfield District, Fairfield County, South Carolina, at post office Winnsboro, with Mary Pickett (age 23), Amand Pickett (age 22), William Yonger (age 26), and Sallie Raines (age 13). [38]

1845 William L. Pickett and Abraham F. Lumpkin petitioned the chancellors of South Carolina in Fairfield, South Carolina. [39]

William L. Pickett and Abraham F. Lumpkin, administrators of the estate of Reuben Pickett, seek to retrieve property that they claim for Reuben Pickett's estate. The petitioners explain that Reuben Pickett, Robert Knox, and Susannah Pickett "owned and worked together" about 70 slaves and 1200 acres, valued near $30,000. Knox and the Picketts owed money to various people, including $4,628.80 to James Pickett and more than $7,000 to the estate of John Pickett, administered by James B. Pickett. The petitioners charge that James B. Pickett colluded with the three debtors to defraud their creditors, but later used the various transactions to obtain the debtors' property for himself. The petitioners allege that James B. Pickett kept three slaves out of Reuben Pickett's estate without ever accounting for their hire or purchase. All of the original parties involved have since died. The petitioners ask that James Gilmer, administrator of the estate of James B. Pickett, return or account for the property that Pickett fraudulently acquired from Reuben Pickett.

1821 The will of John Pickett, father of Susanna Cason, was recorded in Fairfield District. [40]

1822 The will of a different John Pickett of Fairfield district, South Carolina was dated July 27, 1822 and proved November 8, 1822. Estate to be divided between wife Charlotta and children James B Pickett and Charlotte Pickett. Reuben B Pickett $300, if he pays back a note due. Robert L Knox, $100 if he pays back a note due. Tacitus Cassity $50 out of money due. James, eldest son of John Templeton, all debts due from John Templeton. Ephram Willson rent due. Executors: wife Charlotte, son John B Pickett, and John Guntharp. Witnesses: John Harving, Joseph Williams, Valentine Haisley. [41] [42]

1823 Robert Knox Pickett (1823-1885) has been named as a son of this couple, likely based on the 1850 census listing. This suggests spacing between successive children that is biologically very close. Robert was not named in the will of John B. Pickett Sr nor in the family bible. Robert Knox Pickett has also been named as a son of Reuben Pickett and Mary Ann Lewis, as we show. We seek evidence to clarify these relationships.

DNA relationships suggest that John Pickett, or a relative of his, had children with women other than the known wives listed here; perhaps with slaves. We seek further information to clarify these relationships.
