Notes for Robert Beighton and Katharine

1563 Will of Robert Beyghton of Halome (Hallam) within the parish of Sheffeld, proved 1 September 1563 at York. He directed that his body should be buried in the churchyard of St Peter Sheffeld. He gave to John Beyghton his son; the rest of all his goods unbequeathed, his debts paid, he gave to Katheryne his wife, James Beyghton, John Beyghton, Sicillie Daill, Margaret Beyghton and Elizabeth Beyghton his children, whom he ordained and made his executors to order and dispose of his goods, for the health of his soul, as they thought fit. Witnesses: Thomas Storthe, John Oxprynge, Richard Borows. The will was proved by Katheryne the widow, James Beyghton, John Beyghton and Cicillie Daill, power being reserved to Margaret and Elizabeth Beyghton, then being minors. May 20th 1563. [1]

1581 John Revell married Margaret Beighton, daughter, and coheir with her sister, of Robert Beighton [Beighton pedigree reports father Thomas with footnote indicating the name should be Robert] [2] [3] John Revel of Ogston married Margaret Beighton, co-heir and daughter of Robert Beighton of Hallam in parish of Sheffield. [4]

1581 The estate of Robert Beighton was made 11 April. [footnote in the Beighton pedigree cited above, Yorkshire Evidences, Sheffield, No 47, original citation has not been found]

Research Notes:

A will named Robert Beighton with a debt "to the pore folk of Sheffield". [5]

1545 October 21st. The Will (Engl.) of John Beighton of Hallam within the Parish of Sheffield, proved 13th April 1546 at York, directed that he should be buried in the churchyard of the blessed Apostles Saints Peter and Paul, and for his mortuary according to the King's Acts. Testator gave to Cicilie his wife, his gowne, and the residue of his rayment to his childer, William, Nicholas and Raufe; his wife to have a third of his goods, after he had been brought forthe; residue thereof amongst his children, William, Agnes, Katheryne, Nicholas and Raufe. He appointed his wife Cicilie executrix, and Thomas Mychell supervisor, "he to have 12d for his paynes." Names of Persons: John Beighton, Cicilie Beighton, William Beighton, Nicholas Beighton, Raufe Beighton, Agnes Beighton, Katheryne Beighton, Thomas Mychell. Witnesses: Sir John Addie, John Mychell, William Beighton, Robert Machon, John Royll. Place-Names : Halome within the Parish of Sheffelde; Churchyard of the blessed Apostles St. Pet & Paul. [6]

1545 November 16th. The Will (Engl.) of Robert Beghton of Hallam within the Parish of Sheffield, proved 1st March 1546-7 at York, directed that he should be buried in the churchyard of Saints Peter and Paul Sheffield, and for his mortuary according to the King's Acts. Testator gave to his wife a third part of all his goods; to Joan Gill his daughter 40s; to Henrie Cowine wife 24s; to Robert Beighton (sic) "an awmbrie," bis "gretest pott, a gret pann, the table, the longest bord, a gret arke in the chamber, a fatt that standes in the cotte, the best wayne, the yokes with all thinges belonging to husbandrie and all harnes"; to five of his son John's children, William, Agnes, Katheryne, Nicholas and Rauf 5 marks amongst them; to every godchild 4d. Residue to Robert Beghton (sic) and Joan Gill, whom he made executors; and appointed Thomas Michell and John Michell supervisors, they to have for their labors 6s 8d. Names of Persons: Robert Beghton, Joan Gill, Robert Beighton (sic), Henrie Cowine, John Beghton, William Beghton, Agnes Beghton, Katheryne Beghton, Nicholas Beghton, Rauf Beghton, Thomas Michell, John Michell. Witnesses : Sir John Addie, Thomas Mitchell (sic), John Mitchell (sic), Roberte Beighton (sic). Place-Names: Hallam, Sheffeld, Churchyard of Saints Peter and Paul. [7]

1528 William Beyghton was named in a deed regarding Ford House (Thomas Curtis lived there later). [8]

1659 Thomas Beighton lived at Handley, North Wingfield. [9]

1679 Thomas Beighton of Handley, North Wingfield, was yeoman to John Revell of Wooley. [10]

1682 A messuage and lands in Handley: Lease and release by Thomas Beighton of Handley in the parish of North Wingfield yeoman and John Revell of Woolley in the parish of Morton yeoman to William Stocks of Higham Hill in the parish of Shirland yeoman of one third-part of a messuage and lands as above. Dated 6/7 September. Consideration £42 10s. [11]
