1881 F B Miles (age 48, born England), publisher, and Ella (age 43, born New Brunswick) lived in St-John's Ward, Toronto (City), Ontario, Canada with children A C (age 20, student), Reginald (age 2 months), E Maud (age 18), Fred S (age 17), Herbert D (age 14), Annie M (age 12), Edith M Miles (age 4). [1]

1900 On June 9, Ernest Lackner (age 47, born October 1852) and his wife Louise (age 41, born July 1858) lived at 3201 Calumet Avenue in Chicago Township, Cook County, Illinois, with their children Adele (age 19, born Sept 1880), Josephine (age 17, born Dec 1882), and Julius (age 13, born February 1887), mother-in-law Matilda Grossenheider (age 62, born Feb 1838 in Germany), and neice Amelia Smieding(?) (age 19, born Jan 1881in Wisconsin). Ernest and his parents were born in Germany, Louise and the children were born in Illinois. Louise's parents were born in Germany. Ernest and Matilda's year of immigration was 1858. Ernest was a physician, and he and Lousie had been married 22 years. [2]

1908 On 26 September, Reginald O Miles (age 27) married Josephine Lackner (age 25) in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. [3] Plans for the wedding had been announced earlier in the month [4], and The Chicago Daily Tribune reported on September 26, [5]

A recent death in the groom's family also makes a quiet home affair of the service uniting Miss Josephine Lackner, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Lackner, and Reginald Odber Miles is to take place at noon in the family residence, 3210 Calumet avenue. Bishop Charles Edward Cheney will perform the ceremony, which will be attended by the immediate relatives only. A wedding breakfast will follow. The bride and groom will be at home after Dec. 1 at 269 East Fifty-sixth street.

1910 On April 23, Reginald O. Miles (age 29) and his wife Josephine L. (age 27) lived at 1408 56th Street, 7-Wd, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, and had been married 1 year. Reginald was a special agent in the life insurance industry. He was born in Canada, his father was born in England, and his mother was born in Canada. Josephine was born in Illinois, her father born in Wisconsin, and her mother was born in Illinois. [6]

1918 On September 12, Reginald Odber Miles registered for the WWI draft. He lived at 2222 Lincoln St, Evanston, Cook, Illinois. He was born 19 Feb 1881 and was self-employed as a life insurance counselor and salesman with an office on LaSalle St. in Chicago, Illinois. His nearest relative was his wife Josephine Lackner Miles. He was tall, of slender build, and had light brown eyes and hair. [7] [8]

1920 On January 3, Reginald O. Miles (age 38) and his wife Josephine L. (age 37) lived at 4205 Latona Ave, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California with three children, Josephine L. (age 8, born in Illinois), Richard W. (age 6, born in California), and John O. (age 4 9/12, born in California). Dora E. Babcox (age 54) and a private nurse, lived with the Miles family. Reginald was a manager in the life insurance industry. He was born in Canada, his father was born in England, his mother was born in Canada. [9]

1925 Reginald O. Miles was awarded disability payments on December 7. [10]

Reginald O. Miles was awarded $2500 in his suit against Aetna Life Insurance Company of Hartford, Ct. by a jury in Federal Judge James's court yesterday. Miles sued for ten monthly payments of $500 each on the disability clause of a $300,000 policy. The jury awarded half this amount.
Before the closing statements, Mrs. Miles and a nurse presented affadavits to the effect that Miles was undergoing observation in the psychiatric ward of the General Hospital. He had made only one appearance during the trial of the suit, which was last Saturday. ... Miles, it was said was formerly local agent for the insurance company, earning $1500 a month. It was declared he suffered a nervous breakdown two years ago, and that he was incompacitated for mental or physical labor.
The company introduced records of a brokerage house in an effort to show that he had continued to play the stock market after his asserted breakdown, and pictures purporting to show him engaged in aquatic sports with the intention of proving that he had not been physically incompacitated.

1929 Reginald O. Miles died in Los Angeles, California. An autobiographical interview with his daughter Josephine states that he died in February. [11] A California death index states that he died on April 3. [12]

1930 On April 14, widow Josephine L. Miles (age 47) lived at 1140 Keniston Ave, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, with children Josephine Louise (age 18), Richard B. (age 16), and John O. (age 15). [13]

1940 On April 5, widow Josephine L. Miles (age 57) and her daughter Josephine L. Miles (age 28) lived at 1140 Keniston Avenue, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. Five years earlier they were living in Oakland, California. The occupation of the younger Josephine was research work in English literature. [14]

1971 Josephine L. Miles died on December 25 in Alameda County, California. A California death index reports that she was born on 28 December 1892 in Illinois. [15]. Her death date is reported as January 1972 in the SSDI. [16]
