1860 M A Picketts (age 28, born in Alabama, gender unclear, perhaps this is Mary Ann) lived in Apalachicola Twp, Franklin County, Florida, in a household with Kate Pickett (age 6), and W C Pickett (age 3). [1]

1862 Hiram W Pickett was in the Civil War from April 1862 to May 10, 1865 (Co. A, 2nd Florida Cavalry). [2] He was discharged as a Lieutenant (Company of Milton Dragoons). Major W. H. Milton's Cavalry Battalion. [3]

1865 Hiram W Pickett was in the Fifth Cavalry Battalion, Florida. [4] [5] [6] [7]

1870 A letter of administration was issued in Apalachicola, Florida naming Mary Ann Pickett administratrix for the estate of Hiram W Pickett, who died intestate in Franklin County, Florida. Dated August 17. [8] [9]

1870 Hiram Pickett was buried in Chestnut Cemetery in Apalachicola, Franklin County, Florida. Inscription: Co. A, 2nd Florida Cavalry, CSA. [10] [11] [12]

1870 Mary Picket (age 37, born in Florida) lived in Yalachicola Twp, Franklin County, Florida, in a household with William Picket (age 13), Mary A Picket (age 8), and Robert E Picket (age 3). [13] The census was dated July, so Hiram would have already died. The listing was on the same page as Hiram's brother Micajah C Pickett.

1880 Mary A (Whitehurst Pickett) Dermont (age 46) lived in Apalachicola, Franklin, Florida with son Nicholas Demont (age 6), William C Pickett a sailor (age 23), Mary B Pickett (age 18), and Robert E Pickett (age 13) laboring in the sawmill. All were born in Florida. Nicholas' father was born in Italy. The father, of the other children (Hiram), was born in North Carolina. [14] [15]

1883 Mary A Dermont, administrator of the estate of Hyram W Pickett, petitioned that Peter Wise be appointed guardian for minor heir Robert E. L. Pickett, age 17. Dated December 26. [16]

1883 William C Pickett, John M Fowler and wife Mary A Fowler, and Peter Wise, guardian of Robert E. L Pickett, were named as heirs of the estate of Hyram W Pickett by Mary A Dermont, administrator. Real estate was sold by M. C. Pickett to Mary A Dermont. Dated December 27. [17]

1885 M E Dermont (age 51, born in Florida) lived in Franklin County, Florida with son Robert Pickett (age 18, born Florida) and Nicholas Dermont (age 11, father born in Italy). Robert's parents were born in Georgia and Florida. Robert was an engineer. [18]

1908 Mary A. Dermont wrote her will in Apalachicola, Franklin County, Florida, dated on May 15. She named her son Robert Lee Pickett as heir and executor. [19]

Research Notes:

It appears that Kate is likely the daughter of Hiram, who died before Hiram's death, as mentioned by brother, Isaiah C. Pickett's letter to M. C. Pickett in April, 1870, upon learning of Hiram's death. [20]
